Time for a car change but need some help on car choice
So after 6 years of ownership its time to move on, mainly because I need something bigger
With everything that is going on with Covid, and a new house purchase on the horizon i prob won't sell my car for another year but the car selection process has been started! I see myself having 3 options and I would love your help. Only thing that is a must, is that I need an estate/wagon 1st Option Buy a C7 RS6 avant and have some change - this will be around 50k uk pounds 2nd option Buy the new C8 RS6 avant on the second hand market when it becomes affordable in the next year - this will be around 80k UK pounds 3rd Option buy a stupid toy car purely for fun...Im thinking and Exige 350 or and Exige 410 + a boring and practical family car such as a golf r estate - this will be around 80k Would very much appreciate your opinions (but the new m5 is not an option for me) |

If i were making the decision I probably wouldn't go for the c7 RS6, they are a great looking car but the only other difference you're getting is AWD. The power is the same as the F10, which is enough but if you can get more why not. The new E63s has come down In price alot and looks and sounds fantastic with the added bonus of more power.

The C7/7.5 RS6 is an awesome car. Great build quality and very usable power (puts it down with ease). They also offer heaps in the way of space (bigger back seats for the kids and a huge boot). They also respond well to a flash tune (APR, Revo etc) - you can expect circa 500kW from a Stage 1.
The tech is starting to get a little dated by modern standards (C7.5 slightly less so, particularly the MY17+ with Carplay) but IMO it doesn't take away from what makes the RS6 so special. The C8 RS6 will obviously be better again (not yet out in Australia but not far away from what I'm told). Performance is only marginally better, but the interior and tech is obviously light years ahead. If you're happy to stretch to the C8 I think you'll be buying a 'helluva car', but if you can find a C7.5 in the right spec for the right price then you'll still get a massive amount of enjoyment out of it. FWIW I had a MY16 (C7.5) RS6 and highly recommend the B&O sound system if you can find a car with it. Significantly better than the B&O in my M5. Mine also had the air suspension as opposed to the DRC - I liked the flexibility this offered and would want that again too. Let me know if you've got further questions - happy to discuss the RS6 (one of my favourite cars that I've owned). |

2014 E63 S 4 Matic is my next go to then maybe an F90 M5. Im glad they are all going AWD these days. Opens the consumer market for people that get snow and you also get improved performance. I would not do the new F90 yet as you already stated. They will drop like a rock in value like most M5 in matter of years, eventually they kinda flat-line and do not depreciate nearly as much after a certain time frame, that is when you should pick one up!

I’m going through the same thing. I’ve been looking at E63s wagons and RS7’s 2017 and up. The only problem is that it’s a 2014, I’ve only got 40k miles on the car and every time I drive it I love it. Hahaha.

+1 on the E63s wagon.
The overall feel seems superior on the road over the F10. Carpool buddy has a MY2017. The steering feel is reminiscent of older M cars with more power than the F10. My only gripe is that people at work know when you drive in/out as it's loud (not obnoxious) for daily driving. I'll consider the Volvo polestar wagon over the Audi if you can wait for its supply to kick in.

Not sure you can get the new one in the UK, The F11 was not available as RHD, or outside Europe.
But what about a G31 M550D Touring? I had a F10 M550D before my M5. 381hp/740nm was quite fun, put a ESS chip in it and got 440HP/830nm. No M5, but with a consumption around 9.0l/100km mixed driving, and sub 6l/100km on the highway cruise, 0-60mph in 4,5 seconds, this is probably the most "bang for bucks" you can have. This thing pulls like a train, has AWD and comfort is fantastic. A bit more refined than the M5, but certainly a car that can be a lot of fun as well and leave some pretty impressive cars in the dust. Think the new quad turbo 400Hp G30 can be tuned to 500Hp with a simple chip. If they make a RHD version of the G30, I'd certainly have a look. |
