Video via Snap-in Adaptor...

So after reading in my manual that video from an iPhone can be played in the vehicle only if using the snap-in adaptor, as well as the claim of extended antenna range, (I live in the middle of no where), I jumped on a deal when I found a new one for 25% off on eBay.

Got the adaptor home, quickly installed it, and noticed the following:

1). No increased range

2). Video was an option, but was grey out and couldn't be selected (see pics below)

3). Apparently the fan doesn't turn on to cool the phone. (I guess this could only occur when the phone reaches X temp....?)

4). So, basically the snap-in adaptor charges the phone, just as my usb cord did that was free with my phone....what am I missing??

My manual clearly states video can be played through the iPhone using the snap-in adaptor.

I have a 2015 X5m and an iPhone XS Max.

Video was never an option without the adaptor, guessing I just need to make a small tweek to get this to work. (Car was in park with brake on)

I tried YouTube...I guess I could have tried a video that I recorded myself, but didn't think it would make a difference.

Thanks in advance!

You need to code the car to be able to play certain videos. If you don’t code it, it limits your files to a specific format and (maybe I’m mistaken) you have to be parked with hand brake on. Also, I don’t think YouTube works. You need locally stored file.

Hmm, I will have to take a look again. I thought I activated all of the video options. Currently, I can play DVDs at any speed.

(I don't drive around with movies playing, in fact, I barely drive it at all, it is my wife's DD. However, we go on some pretty long road trips and would be cool to have the option for the passenger.)

Just seems weird that the manual says it can play video when using the cradle, and a "video" icon pops up, as seen in pic above.

I am wondering if I am just not playing the right type of file...?

as far as I remember, video is not available via lightning connector. I might be wrong though.

Correct only works on the old iPhone 4s which uses an analogue video signal iPhone 5 and later use a digital video signal that iDrive 4 and snap in adaptor is not compatible with
