Hey guys,

Getting the Vorsteiner, but can't decide on how to paint it. I love the fade but it will cost me $138 extra... so just wanted to make sure it is worth it.

So if anyone of you could help me PS the car below to red, I would really really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Have you tried using the configurator? It gives you a rear view similar to this...

Not sure if this helps but here is our Coral red 335 with a similar paint scheme:

why would they charge you extra? its not like they are using extra paint, and its really not that hard to do a fade....sounds like to me the shop your using is jerking your chain and getting you to cough up MORE money than you should.

The fade actually requires extra steps and more time. More time in booth, more masking, more money... It's cheaper to have it all painted. Simply masking off with no fade is a tad more. Then adding the fade is a tad more on top of that.

Fading is VERY difficult to do and requires a lot of time to make it look right. It's not the extra materials, it's the extra labor involved.

Where's the love FifthStreetz??

We're actually the shop that's going to be doing the job, so I can shed some light on the subject. There are a few extra steps involved:

A standard trunk would simply get sanded, primed, and painted.

A trunk with a fade will need the following:

Step 1- The whole trunk gets prepped and sanded.

Step 2- The CF area gets masked.

Step 3- The trunk gets painted.

Step 4- The trunk must be left to dry.

Step 5- Once the trunk dries, the fade must be applied to the CF.

Step 6- The trunk must be left to dry again.

Step 7- Once the trunk dries again, the entire trunk is wetsanded.

Step 8- The trunk is then clear coated.

In essence, you have to paint the trunk twice, and mask it several times. Although the paint itself generates a minor amount of expense, the actual labor involved is substantial.

I hope that makes sense!

How much did your shop charge you? If you don't mind me asking.

makes sense, please excuse my ignorance then, i thought it was just a easier process to tape the area off and paint.

can you be my friend? Some places think that doing extra work ought to cost bundles of money.
