Both. Theres an app you can download from Fi that lets you basically calibrate how and when the valves open in AUTO mode (on the remote). I.E. throttle percentage, Specific RPM ranges, or speed. if you don't utilize that you can just click ON/OFF as you please. It will open with ON to make it loud as shit and close with OFF to make it sound stock-like.
