Way too much time on my hands...
The little jog in the rear wheel arch cutout line for the rear door has been bothering me lately. I know, OCD, I know (but I suspect some of you can relate).
So why is it there? Did someone in the design department screw up or is there a plausible engineering reason? |

The real issue is the separate fender extension moulding.
It's pretty tough to tell on my old X5 whether there is any jog in the way the panel and the door line up, or whether the gap is bigger all around (or both). At any rate, wherever the asymmetry existed on that vehicle, it was much more difficult to perceive, so I'm not sure why the new model had to have a more obvious difference. |
