Smoke smell in the car.
What is the most effective way to get rid of the smoke smell from the ventilation system? I tried Ozione and coffee beans and it's still there.
*not me smoking- previous owner* TIA

I've done the NextZett before and it works very well. I didn't have smoke, but a musty mildew smell and it killed whatever spores were way down the vents.
Since you had a smoker in the car before, did you get a hardcore deep clean and shampoo done of the interior? I bet most of the smell is from carpet and upholstery than in the plastic vents. I'm assuming you changed the cabin air filters too when you got it.

Much cheaper method would be a can of Ozium:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0143M9KP6 Close up all the windows/door/sunroof etc. Turn HVAC on. Set to 70* with highest fan speed setting and manually set it to use all 3 levels of vents. Make sure recirculate is OFF and AC is OFF. Pop the hood and close the drivers door. Open the hood and go to the front passenger side where the fresh air is being sucked in. You might have to remove a piece of plastic trim, shoot a couple of LONG bursts of Ozium into where the air is being sucked. You should be able to see it get sucked in. (note to others reading this, best to replace your cabin filter prior to doing this but the OP said he already replaced his) Let this work for a few minutes with the HVAC still going. Now open the drivers door and set the HVAC to manual recirculate mode (not auto) and spray some into the front and rear seats open area as well as the cargo open air area. Close the door let it recirc for a bit. Now turn off recirc and set it to AC (again full fan speed/all 3 vent levels) and spray it into the outside fresh air intake location again. After a few min, turn on recirc again (with AC on), wait a few min. Last repeat this one more time with heat on (crank it up to highest temp it goes) and do it without and then with recirc. The reason for doing this 3 times is that different ports/flaps/vents get triggered with AC, fresh air, recirc and heat and smoke that got recirculated clings to everything so you need the Ozium to touch every little nook and cranky inside the HVAC ducts. Let it sit overnight. Open the windows via the remote the next morning and after letting the Ozium out for a bit go take it for a drive with all the windows open and the HVAC on. You should be good to go especially if you said you already got it out of the carpets etc. HTH! |
