Worry or not to worry

Last week I went to NJ to get gas as usual, I had between 1/2 tank and 3/4 of a tank of the usual 93 octane. I went to fill it up because I was leaving early the next morning for a 250 mile vacation (one way). In Jersey the gas attendants fill it up. Pull up, window down and I say "fill up with 93 please." I give him the credit card he asks for zip code and proceeds to hit the 87 octane button. After two gallons I look over as usual and there it is 87 octane going into tank. I immediately jump out and turn off the nozzle. "What are you doing pal"? Oh I got confused when you told me the zip code. My zip code doesn't have an 87 in it. Long story short 2 gallons of 87 octane went in and then we filled the rest about 5 gallons of 93. Should I worry about this at all? Thanks

That's just more annoying than anything. Shouldn't have an effect though - it'll mix and might be at 92.5 now, but it'll even out as you refuel.
You can always find some 100 octane if you're worried

I mean, out here in CA, we only have 91. So even with that attendant's screw up, you're still getting higher octane than us!

No worries. I've had to put 87 in before because it was the only option available and had no issues.

You're fine.

Slight hijack - I live in NY and work in NJ. I've always filled up in NJ due to the difference in cost. With the last tax hike in NJ, depending upon where you go, the price is so close, almost the same. My issue is I hate pumping my own gas and most of the stations I pass in NY during my commute don't even offer full serve.

Hijack over.

EDIT - Do you see much of a difference between NJ and NY prices for 93?

You will be fine. As for getting gas in Jersey, Unless I am heading there, the price difference is not worth it anymore.

My dad put half a tank of petrol in his XC90 diesel once. Was just fine. If you have to worry about putting two gallons of 87 in your X5M, my goodness...

Thanks for all info. The difference I see is about .30 cents a gallon, it's not the $$ as much as I believe I'm getting it in the a@@ in NY at every turn and I refuse to buy gas in NY. I'm close to NJ so why not continue going there to fill up.
