JB4 Install

Hey all,
So I bought a JB4, and installed it and attempted to start the engine. It cranked and cranked and would catch for half a second then die. It smelt like it was running rich, and a decent amount of smoke was coming out of the back. I then disconnected the fuel rail pressure sensor from JB4 harness, and plugged it back into the vehicle's harness. It ran perfectly, but with pending fault codes. I eventually just decided to disconnect the whole thing until I figured it out. The only stipulation is that everything was connected, except for the CAN/OBD part, as it didn't come with the kit (on order).

Does anyone have any insight? Maybe the JB4 isn't getting enough power? I didn't plug in any 12v source, so maybe that was it. But I don't know these JB units very well, and their DIY PDF seems to be down.

Why don't you have the OBDII? Maybe you have the wrong unit or a firmware issue? Maybe something is loose in the harness or damaged?
