Aftermarket HUD or retrofit ?

What's your take ? Do you use it?
Can it be retrofit ? Cost?

Aftermarket ones. Did not find any that has GPS direction.

By the time you factor the expense of the changes in the dash, the unit itself, and replacing the front windshield, I think it would be less expensive just to find a car with Factory HUD and trade yours for it. As for the usefulness of the HUD itself, they are very helpful and I think add to the overall safety of the car.

The dash can be cut, but I believe the cluster needs to be changed. I'd venture into this if my windshield required replacement AND had a wrecker with all parts handy. Otherwise, yeah, easier replacing a car since HUD vehicle also have other goodies included. And yes, F15 HUD is very useful and way better than in E70.

Mine came with HUD and I didn't think I'd use it, but it didn't take me to realize that I'd be hard pressed to buy a car without it.

Retrofitting and the cost of it I can't speak to honesty but I'd imagine it'd be high. However, having it is a big plus, I use it every time and it makes driving easier. Now I don't think the cost of retrofitting would sway me to do it, I'd rather have a newer idrive retrofit for the high cost of either one. Im like you with LED lighting package, I don't have it, can't justify retrofitting however on my next vehicle I'll be making sure it's equipped.

Same here, I do have it but not use it, I don't have LED and would like to have it but to expensive to retrofit

Yes it it possible to add it, but I don't think adding it is worth the money.

I’m the same. HUD was not a feature I sought, let alone even considered when I bought my X5; however, after using it a few times, so appreciate its usefulness. Going forward, it is a must have feature fore me.

OP: in response to your question, agree with all the other posts advising that it would likely be cost-prohibitive, and easier to find a X5 already with the feature than to retrofit.
