Service History

Not sure if it possible but I'm looking at a used M4, does anyone recommend a friendly local dealer that would be willing to divulge the service history? Located in South Jersey.

Good luck. Most dealers won't violate the privacy of past owners... unless you do service with them.

Call the dealer who last serviced car per Carfax. They usually will talk to you if you are polite about asking to verify the service history you see on Carfax. If you position that you may bring car in for a pre purchase inspection or use dealer for service they will treat you like a customer.

Remember the worst the dealer can say is — I can't divulge the info. So as long as you don't ask about the personal detail, you can verify service history / completed service and warranty items at each visit. You have to be persistent and may have to talk to more than one person at dealer if the first won't talk, but I had no issues learning all about several cars in detail.

In fact doing this I was able to find deal killer info about non warranty electrical harness repairs on a F80 I didn't buy. And on the car I did buy I learned the car had been re-upped for transferable service plan (freebie the seller didn't know!).

Due diligence is key for a used car purchase.

When I was shopping around I called BMW directly and they gave me all the service history for a particular vehicle. Not sure if that is standard practice. Worth a try.

I’ll give it a try, it’s a third party dealer. Previous owner traded it for a gt350...
