Why is it lighting up important?

Un-illuminated shift knobs in modern cars just look out of place. Especially in newer BMWs where everything else is orange or orange/white. No illumination makes it look like an aftermarket accessory that wasn't very well thought out.

I don't get caught up in that stuff but to each their own. I love the tri-stitch one but have yet to pull the trigger on it.

I have the tri stitch carbon one, and I love it. It took the slop out of my shifting. Definitely recommended.

Agreed. I had the same one on my 340 before the M. I couldn't believe how laughably shitty the stock shift knob was when I test drove the car, I replaced the stock M knob with that one as soon as I got this car.

The one that came on my ‘15 F80 manual was pretty good, assuming it came different on your M/Lite, wonder why they would just not use the same unit?

Personally I think the current dct knobs are cheap & plasticly looking but given we have a choice I tend to use the paddles to impress my passengers.

It’s kind of a dust magnet. How often do you have to vacuum it?

Just so we're talking about the same thing - here's the stock shift knob from my car, which I hated. It just feels so rubbery and it's way too bulky

and the mperf one i swapped it with:

It feels soo much better

I don't daily my car, and it's been in storage since mid-November, so I'll let you know what I pull it out.

I don't recall it being a dust magnet at all last summer though. No more than the leather boot was at least.
