DCT shifting Video
This is to check if the shifting is slow or fast.. you tell me... try to hear the paddle click when I shift while looking @rpm.. I also tried to go as close as possible to the red limiter. A new Launch Control video @4500. Tell me what u think.. I hope the quality is good enough ... Enjoy. (Thx yousef) |

Good vids.
Looks like you still got a lot of wheel spin even though you adjusted the Launch control RPM down to 4500, guess its all that sand blowing on the road? What EDC setting etc. did you use. Also on the video where you shift, what setting where you on? S6? |

Vid looks great. Thanks
Can someone please explain to me how does the EDC effect the launch? I thought it's more for control of the shock absorbers? |

what's the red message that's poppin' up in the middle of all of this? looks like a steering wheel... is it telling you to hang on for dear life or what?

That's the "speed limit exceeded" warning message which is user-programmable via iDrive.

I shift at the yellow limiter - not the red limiter!

BMW - Inside Track August 2008

Switching at high speed between the two structures, one gear is in use while the next is already in position for engagement. The result: faster gear shifts than even F1 cars." |

Why assume that the flick of the paddle till the gear shift takes place would be that much different to that of the C63? Both are ultra hi-performance motors from each brand and are made to be the best they can. It's not the paddle flick that will be different but the way the actual change happens. Some people need to experience dual clutch to understand how they differ from a normal automatic and this is not to say that autos like the C63 or IS-F are bad, far from it but with them you can feel the slur of the shift that isn't present with DCT. Whether M-DCT is the very best currently available is debatable but it is most definitely here or here abouts and to me at least it's better than all true automatic when used in a sportscar application. |

I just demoed the dct for 2 days..and YES there is a delay..very noticeable. It shifts faster than smg but has more of a delay. I would rather have shorter shift times with no delay than lightning speed shifts with delay. I hit the rev limiter once cause of the delay. However, downshifts have less delay than upshifts. I wish they put SMG3 in the new M. On a good note the automode is great. But if I like the automode so much maybe i should just look into a C63?? Other than that the M kicks ass...
