Snow with PSS m4

Looks like it's going to snow here in Vancouver, not going to buy a new set of tires for the five snow days. Any tips for snow driving? Thanks guys!

On their website it says: Driving without winter tires does not void your ICBC insurance policy if you have a claim.
Have you or know someone who has a issue to file a claim for driving in snow with summer tires? Just wondering, thanks!

+1 Don't do it. I can't even get out of my driveway without sliding everywhere. It stays in the garage for 3 months here in Germany.

Forget about the insurance claim. Your risking your and other people's lives by driving with summer tires on in the snow on a rear wheel drive car. I know it sounds parental but really it's not worth the risk. Take an Uber or rent a cheap car.

You need to remember that Summer tires under perform in temperatures under 7 degrees celcius. I would not be taking a high performance RWD vehicle in below 0 degree temperature with summer tires on.

I will be parking my f80 M3 next week and taking the good old 1998 4runner. If it rains and freezes its going to be a gong show.

Dont do it. Had a hard time driving with a coating on the road. Car would just spin and slide out after getting it moving. I bought a set of winter tires and it is like night and day. Cannot believe how bad PSS are in snow.

I got caught in one late snow storm on PSS and it was like I don’t have brakes or AWD in my old 335 xDrive.

.
Agreed. Those temps are the main problem day to day with summer tire rubber compound. The snow is justthe ‘icing’ on top...

Don't. Don't put other ppl at risk. Driving in the snow is already a frustrating enough experience, don't add to the fire.

And ICBC, they may not explicitly state they will deny coverage, but chances are high they won't cover you. They will deny you if you got in an accident in the rain due to bad/bald tires, what do you think summer tires will let them do?

Quite well. But slips on every turn. Summer tires is a recipe for disaster. Dont do it.

I grew up in montreal and started to drive in snow since 16.. but I still wouldnt drive a car with summer tires in snow. Rwd or not is not even the point. The problem is the car can never stop properly. Its like skating. If the car is on a down hill, i can almost guarantee u will hit someone. So yea, hell no for u buddy

I parked my CS last week after 30cm in Toronto. On main roads its fine but with no snow removal on side roads they turn into one ways and you can get into tricky situations real quick, rather not risk it. Took it out today for the first time since Monday, missed it.

I've been daily driving a M4 this winter in Ottawa. The first week while I was waiting for my winter tires to arrive I couldn't make it up my drive way with a bit of snow.
With winter tires though, it honestly isn't that bad. Like a previous guy said, it will slip in turns, but is generally and totally doable.

If you are going to have 2 sets of tires, buy the right ones for each (main) season
Winters and Summers

Dont buy a compromised tire for the winter.

It is more about the rubber and the outside temperature. Snow is a secondary factor.
