Trans tune
Mission Performance Tuning is now offering a stage 2 trans tune for us 50i guys that they claim also adds 8hp. I have been looking at various tuning options and have been leaning to the BootMod3 that a few of you recommend.
A couple of the performance tuners here is the Houston area recommend the Mission Tuning stage 2 setup and now they also offer a stage 2 Transmission tune. So all you wise and knowleable guys tell me why I do want this or tell me why I do not want one of both of these items. Mission is saying their stage 2 setup will produce 620 crank hp and 620 tq https://missiontuning.com/bmw-transm...lash-tune.html Your Thoughts please...

I had a transmission tune long ago from BPC. Long before Mission Performance had it. I lost it after a visit to dealer and was lazy enough to reflash it. It makes quicker shifts, torque limiters are adjusted too, as well as other parameters, BUT it all comes at expense of parts wearing out faster. BMW even states in it's manual to limit number of launches from the dig as it wears out transmission. Transmission is the one taking the hit in this case.
Overall I say do it, but use it wisely, try to limit acceleration from a stop. Rolling pulls are perfect for sparing transmission and having some fun. P.S. 620tq crank is weak. Folks have 600tq at the wheel (which is about 690tq crank) at stage 1 already. However hp numbers are not bad. |
