Should I buy this M3 with an accident history?

Hey guys. I have been buying my time, looking for a good deal on a F80 with competition package. This one looks like a good deal, but it has been in an accident. Would this be too much of a risk because of the accident history?

Depends on the severity of the accident. Just because it was in an accident that doesn't mean it's not worth the buy. See if you can get some more history on whether it was a minor fender bender, or if the damage was more severe. If it was a minor accident then really you're just going to have some potential leverage to negotiate with, and will never feel the difference in the car.

Counter to that though, the decision is really on you. If you'll never feel comfortable owning a car with an accident report, regardless of how minor the damage might have been, don't pull the trigger. Just try to find out as much as you can, then make the decision.

My concern with this particular car is that the structural damage was on multiple sides of the vehicle. Any accident, no matter how carefully repaired, will reduce structural integrity to a degree... Given that it's a high performance RWD car, getting in a future high speed accident is not all that unlikely, and you may decide the risk here is not worth it given the possibility of the structure not holding up. Just my 2 cents.

CarFax list of damage is not encouraging. Does not seem like a minor fender bender. As suggested, try to get details of damage including pictures, and have the car inspected if you really want to consider it. Personally, I wouldn't invest a lot of time in this one.

Keep looking!!! Also I had never liked the used car market in NYC, idk I feel they never truly disclose the history 100% also carfax doesn’t show everything.

As others have said, it depends on the degree of the accident and damage.

With that said, this one doesn't look promising and isn't even priced that competitively that I'd even remotely consider it. With so many F8Xs hitting the market right now, you can have your pick of the litter. Don't settle for this one.

Not one but two accidents. Looks pretty extensive with structural damage. Could be a bargain if you're a mechanic or hire a trusted mechanic who can bless off on it after a thorough inspection and extended test drive.

The whole front clip on bmw's is "heated on" so to speak. This is less strong then welds if it's replaced. That being said, hard to get it welded on straight...

I have purchased several uses BMWs with accidents, the key is the severity, quality of the repair, and the discount. The damage looks severe solely based on the carfax (structural damage is bad), so this car should be at least 25% below market, assuming the repair was done professionally. So below 40k plus I would not touch unless a a frame shot checked the frame.

I bought a 2008 M3 for $43k used, one accident. Eighteen months later I totaled car in a flood, and got $46k from insurer, even though car had previous accident (9k loss, actually same insurance company) so not all accidents are the kiss of death.

lol a used sports car in jamaica NY. wouldn't touch it with a million foot pole. forget the accidents

from the look of that accident history. was probably a hoon, who didn't respect the throttle in the 6mt, or the car, or his life

"King of Jamaica autos"

nope.

In all seriousness, this car looks framed up (structural damage). Most likely spun out and had both quarter panels re-welded/replaced, or apron damage (or both!) I would pass. The car isnt horribly priced through, I feel like its worth around 39k with the history on it.

I would pass especially on a car for sale in that area. Usually its rip off dealers and the repairs are done super cheap and not done properly

Definitely a pass unless it's being given to you for free. Look at copart if you want to buy a crashed car and fix it up.

Big pass. Cars with accidents on CarFax don’t scare me unless it’s major things like frame damage. It looks like every body panel was damaged, which is very hard to get a perfect quality factory like repair.

If you're planning to use the car for track or as a project car, salvage titles can be a bargain. You can consider looking for one that was stolen too.

I'd be willing to bet you'll be paying some mysterious and unexplainable "dealer fees" if you buy a car from there.

Pass. Find something different.
