Replacing dct shifter and coding?
Anyone know if the dct shifter needs to be recoded when you replace it with a new one. Broke a connector on my old one plus there's coffee stain all over the inside of it. Probably from the previous owner spilling coffee all over.

I swapped a number of shifters with same type and no issue. I’ve also used a 5 Series in a 3 Series with no coding or errors. Caveat, ISTA will throw a fit if you try to update iStep with a different base series shifter in car. But straight swap as you are doing, no issue. |

Wow. Thanks a lot for your help. Glad to know there's no coding required. All these BMW dealership are telling me you need to code whenever you change the shifter. Now I know. Appreciate it.

If you swap, the shifter might not be on the same iStep as the rest of the car, but it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm replacing my shifter with a new shifter from BMW. It's the same one. Part number and everything is the same. Will I still have problems with it if i don't code it. How will the iStep affect it.
