Question Tailgate/Bumper Gap Look Normal?

I can't remember if it was the E70 or F15 that experienced tailgate/bumper issues with broken tabs...I tried searching, but didn't really find much.

I was washing my X5M and noticed what I thought to be somewhat of a larger than normal gap between the tailgate and bumper. From certain angles, when the tailgate is closed, you can actually see the bumper tabs as they are visually contrasted by the matte black tabs and glossy exterior BSM paint. I had my 1200 break in service today and pointed it out to my SA. We looked at other F15s in the showroom and none had gaps wide enough to expose the tabs. He wanted to compare mine to another X5M, but not many around my neck of the woods. From afar, nothing looks suspect.

Can someone please check theirs and let me know if there is a large enough gap that you can see the tabs when closed? Taking pictures was difficult to capture what I'm talking about, but I think you can get the idea. The last few pics are of the tailgate tilted open slightly to get a better look at the tabs. It looks like either the tabs need to be inserted more (if possible?) or the tailgate adjusted lower (if possible?) to meet up closer to the bumper when closed.

Here is mine, that is NOT normal. You should never be able to see body mounting tabs.

Time to take it in and get fixed!

I was just there yesterday...I hate bringing in my cars, as something else tends to go wrong! Just imagining how they are going to "fix it" makes me anxious. It's not as obvious a gap unless you are tying to find it, I'd hate for them to make it worse. Any ideas on how I could try and fix it without damage?

I wouldn't do it. It should have been fine from the factory and something they caught during the PDI. Make them fix it and give you an F90 M5 as a loaner!

Right way to fix is probably to take the bumper off and put it back on to align it properly

I'm no stranger to the factory/VDC or PDI missing fit and finish issues. Our past X3 M40i had one of the rear wheel arches popping out (but I was able to bang the clips back into place), hatch gap (I was also able to fix myself by readjusting the bump stop), and HK speaker cover not seated properly.

I actually have a great rapport with my SA and techs, but sh!t happens. They always get me in right away and a loaner is no problem, but I prefer to wait--less time my Ms are out of my hands

Anyone else have pics of there rear bumper/tailgate?

How could they possibly make it worse? At some point you need to put your worries aside and let them sort it out. You are not loaning your wife out for a "realignment" - its' a SAV for goodness sake.

I know, just don't like the inconvenience. I need to bring it in anyway for a n/c alignment before 2k. My SA didn't want to do the alignment yesterday bc he didn't have anyone working Sat that he would recommend.

So I brought my M3 in today to get serviced, and they had a black sapphire edition X5M also getting serviced. My SA showed me it's rear bumper, and it appears to match mine. So I'm not sure I'm going to risk having mine addressed. These are the pics of the one today
