Camaro SS rental

On a biz trip to Arkansas (!) this week, arrived at Enterprise to find they were out of cars, so I'd been upgraded to a Camaro. Ok, sure. But I walk out to find it's an SS. Oh ho!!!

Here was my experience: First, the visibility is what I would expect driving a tank - an actual tank. You sit low in the car, and the windows feel like portholes. Interior was actually kinda cool, electronics were clear and interesting, and it was reasonably ergonomic.

But it drives! The engine has power at any RPM, while making fantastic noise and winding up with serious enthusiasm Nothing like that V8 rumble, and the roar and lunge when standing on it was just outstanding.

Brakes and handles well too - feels a bit stiff, but comfortable and always "ready to rumble." Not my type, but a fun ride.

Cheers

Yep. I rented a convertible SS in Florida not too long ago. Other than the automatic transmission it was an awesome rental.

It's actually pretty cool how much American muscle you can buy for the money these days. $65k and you're a king. $40k on the used market and you're almost a king.

Coming from a 6th Gen SS I have to agree with a lot of what you said. That exhaust and power were really awesome. But that car was one of those where the novelty wears off really really quick. By the end of my nearly two years with the car I hated it more and more everyday. So glad to be back in an F80, but to be fair I was also DDing the Camaro. As a weekend car it's really fun.

This is actually a great idea to get my V8 muscle car fix, just rent one for the weekend. As they say, a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there.

I agree OP. I really enjoy getting that car as a rental when I travel for work.

I'm actually disappointed when I'm "upgraded" to a 528 or c300.

Wife and I test drove a C300 last year and we couldn’t believe how bad it was to drive unless you were in sport everything. Interior was very nice though.

I had a 2016 SS then 2017 SS 1LE. The 1LE is an amazing performance bargain. Look at the lap times, motor trend figure 8 times and such. It's an absolute animal. The adjustable suspension goes from very compliant to rather stiff, a bigger difference than my M6 competition between different settings. The exhaust was also highly variable from Camry to screamer. Huge 2 pc rotors, super comfortable and supportive Recaros and eLSD make the 1LE a steal.

Anyway. It was okay as a daily but excelled on the track. Love my CPO M6 that's absolutely loaded, feels like a luxury jet in comparison. I'd buy another Camaro as a track car for sure, as long as they make the facelift less hideous.

.
I saw a 1LE with 305 wide tires all around the other day. Not sure if those were factory, but I was super envious those tires fit in the front fenders

285/30/20 Front
305/30/20 Rear

Riding on GoodYear F1 Supercar 3 tires

Standard on the SS 1LE.

It's a monster , I love mine.

Brakes and handles well too - feels a bit stiff, but comfortable and always "ready to rumble." Not my type, but a fun ride.

It's like some people feel great cheating on his wife to try someone new and after two weeks found out his wife is still the best. So don't cheat
