Nail in Tire

I found a nail in my 18 F80 CP driver front tire. The dealership says they don't repair, they will only replace. Few questions:

1) the car has about 2700 miles on it - not driven particularly hard. Any reason to replace both fronts instead of just the one?

2) should I consider going elsewhere to see if an independent (or tire place) will patch or plug? The tire hasn't lost any air pressure, wondering if the puncture isn't too deep or something?

3) anybody have any recommendations for a place to bring it in the southern CT area?

I just had a nail in my tire last week, as long as its not in the side wall they should be able to plug it for pretty cheap at any tire shop.

My understanding of why they won't patch and plug at the dealership is that with the hole, the tire has lost the rating and if something happens at a certain speed due to tire failed, they don't want to be liable. 2700 doesn't seem a lot on paper, but it really depends on how you've driven those 2700 miles

Tread thickness is more important. You can always keep the second front as a spare?

Take it to a good tire shop like discount tire and they can patch it, dealership will not replace.

Infact my dealership told me informally to take it to a tire shop

Thanks guys. I'm taking it to a local tire shop and I'll see what they say.

If they end up doing it, be VERY careful about the way they dismount and mount the tire off the wheel, they often times scratch it

Yes, I am concerned about this as well. I used to bring my 911 to the dealership for tires (they matched tire rack prices) because I sort of assumed they were used to being careful and familiar with low pro tires.

Since bmw won't do anything but replace the tire I guess I have to take my chances right?
