Too good to be true?!

I posted earlier in the wrong thread, so i hope it's okay here...

Here's the deal. I've located a used 2018 M3 for what seems to be a deal so good I feel like I need your guys expert advice. Because you guys really seem to know your sh*t!

2018 Yas Marina Blue M3
-7k miles
-Comp package w/ black 666M wheels
-Black ext leather/carbon trim
-DCT
-Carbon roof
-Exec package
-Drivers assist
-MPE

$59K

Carfax & autocheck history is clean and 1 owner lease. I'm thinking the short owner history is a foreign exchange student dumped it after having to go back to their home country and took a huge loss, which is common where I live.

I was shopping for a 2017 GT 350 or 2017 Corvette GS, but this just seems too good to pass up. What are your thoughts?

As I said in the last thread, I personally would jump on this and not look back.

My only worry is that it is a performance center car. Where was the first owner registered on the carfax?

Doesn't add up....regardless of the circumstances with the previous owner, the dealership is going to list it at market rate. There is some unreported mark on the title; total loss, hail damage, flood damage, something.

True. Could also be a dealer that doesn't know what they have? Sometimes Porsche dealer's used car lots have some gems that are not Porsche's and under priced. Have a few friends that only get cars from Porsche's used dealers for this reason.

See this is what I'm afraid of... Ok I was scared to share where the seller is, but it's (drum roll please) CARMAX of all places, I know.

I was there to check out a Corvette GS and while browsing the lot I saw this one with a pending sale sticker and then the price tag and I literally thought it was a typo.

I asked the salesman if they are aware that this car is priced well under market and you guys are typically above market. We pulled all the paper work. No accidents, clean title, 1 owner, etc... He claimed they got it in and it was on hold all in the same day. The guy never showed up so now it's in hold for me til end of today.

* Also, for you snipers reading this, the car won't show up on a Carmax search

Interesting. I feel like Carmax just uses auction data and some complex algorithm to price their cars and maybe this one kind of went under the radar. I know for fact they don't know to account for the MPE, but I saw it etched on the tips.

I’d be cautious with Carmax. Check all the bumpers and trim carefully for paint work. They will typically do a crappy job with paint work.

They have their own paint booth in the back. Tell tale signs are paint in the bumper trim, mismatched gloss, and overspray.

As others have mentioned, Definitely a hell of a deal!!

And if you can get in writing from them there was never any accident, repairs etc I would jump all over it.

They’re writing is the autocheck report. Schedule a PPI ASAP and return the car if any issues you’re not comfortable with. You only have a few days. Weekends count

My thoughts exactly. I know some "minor" fender benders can go unreported on Carfax when it actually is a ~$5k repair and diminished value. I will look for these signs mentioned. Thanks!

Really? Now that's something I didn't know. Yes, I believe they offer 5 day no hassle return or something like that.

Can't believe I'm seriously considering a car from Carmax

Good idea.
They might paint it just because there is some minor dings or bumper spots. I found out on mine after the fact. My painted reflectors only matched on one side and upon further reflection saw how bad of a job they did.

It actually irks me to the point I want to get it resprayed. Also the fact that the ALWAYS drill a license plate to the bumper.

Crazy price. Buy it and get it PPIed right away. Carmax will take it back if they did not disclose something.

As Carmax has its own warranty, I agree one wonders if this is a Performance Center Car.

I would take VIN to BMW Dealership and have them run it to see if it is covered under standard BMW Warrant and when it expires - or any other gems they might uncover.

iirc, Performance Center Cars do not have Carfax designation (stupid for BMW to report themselves) and a very limited BMW warranty.

Have GOLFFRR run VIN in BMW System.
Good info about the Performance Center Car history. That would definitely make sense but would it really end up at Carmax? Seems like BMW corporate would make sure it ends up back at a BMW dealer, but what do I know...

GOLFFRR if I get the VIN can you run it for me today?

The fact that it's at Carmax makes it even more implausible that it's clean. Carmax is usually on the high end of the price scale, and they have more auction data than almost anyone. In summary - they don't screw up on their prices and you'll very rarely find a deal there.

Even as a performance center car, it's priced too low based on previous PC cars I've seen listed. There is a big missing piece of information here and I would steer clear. The first buyer backed out and likely discovered this, which is why he/she no-showed.

If you request documentation on what they did to car to get ready for sale, would they not be legally required to disclose any repair work, painting, etc?

Are PC cars technically a new car as they have not been sold previously by BMW?

Wouldn’t CarMax give you info of name on title if requested (or if they wanted to sell it) as well as where they acquired it from (Auction or TitleHolder)?

no sorry. We use to back in the day but it was overwhelming with all the request so Sr Thomas put a end to it. you can take the vin and goto your local dealership though and the SA may be able to quickly assist you.
