G05 X5 2019 - initial impressions

Watched a YouTube video on the new X5. While some features and machincal improvements are nice, the overall redesign is dare I say, makes it look like an X3 on steroids. I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I’m definitely not a fan of the new design. Maybe it will grow on my overtime, but for now I’m staying with the current model F15.

Other thoughts ???

well, the new G5 X5 gets the shorter end of the stick this time as it is a quickie "all new" X5 rather than the traditional LCI and BMW reserves all the coolest stuffs for the new X7 coming out very soon.

I must be the only person who actually loves the new X5, I love that its more boxy, not a fan of the grill but in Dark grey and with the M Performance black ones I can see it being ok.

And that Instrument cluster is so nice....probably would want the M performance Carbon Fiber interior but I think that would look ace.

Also, 4 colors for the ambient lighting ? - guessing orange / white / blue / ???

Anyway, wont be changing for another 2 years just in time for all the kinks to be ironed out but I do think I am going to want one (either X5 or the G X6)

Ambient lighting will be like the g30. You'll be able to combine some together so white and blue or white and purple etc...

Being purely objective, the G05 X5 is a home run. It's an improvement on the F15 in every way - exterior/interior styling, tech, performance.... i'm really glad i didn't re-up on my '15 X5 with a '18 X5...i knew i would prefer the new car and I was right. Really well done by BMW.

I think it is fantastic. I actually like M Sport this time. I’ll hold out for the M50i with 530 HP, though.

Ya I don't dislike the looks. Do love the interior and the new digi dash is gorgeous. But yes it's a big X3. Just laziness on BMW part. Gonna suck as it's not gonna stand out. I personally would be annoyed to spend the money on an X5 and know I'm only paying for something that's larger. Oh well there will be some good changes and hopefully an LCI that will help it stand out in a couple years when I'm tired of my F15.

Paying for something larger and with way more tech, luxury, comfort, refinement. The list is huge that distinguishes the X5 from the X3

This.

I just got a 2018 F15 (knowing the G05 was on the way) over the X3 M40i because of the features available.

Multi-contour seats, nice leather, and a more luxury-feel interior sealed the deal. (A real M-Sport steering wheel helped a ton as well. )

Sure, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds was fun, but it wasn't enough to bail on the X5, even if it's basically previous generation at this point.

I think this is where I’m at with the exception of the front grill and tailights. But black grills should solve the grills problem an I’ll just have to get used to the rear. The new interior, tech, 4 wheel air and off-road option stand out for me. The ability to go off-road even if it’s just through rutted forest service roads has me missing my Grand Cherokee at times.

I bought my 2018 F15 in December and plan to at minimum keep it for 3 years. That should be enough time for most of the bugs to be worked out of the G05 and the M50i to be released. I’ll be curious to see if the M50i can be optioned with the off road package.

I've had a few looks and settled on 'they've tried to make it look like the merc and Audi'. No doubt inside will be v similar to the g30 which I have and love. But I'm glad I'm getting an F15 and not the new shape. F15 certainly looks nicer. Maybe the LCi g05 will be better.

Also it's longer and wider than the f15 which wouldn't have been fun for my garage!!

The width is pretty crazy. The F15 is already quite wide. I went to my parents place to use their garage to install the M-Perf front lip and had to fold my mirrors in to get in. My prior SUV (2012 Grand Cherokee) fit in with mirrors out. I was quite surprised at how much wider the F15 is and can't imagine being able to make it in to their garage in the G05 with more than a inch or two to spare on each side.

You need a G-Class, LOL. They are so narrow!! Although interior room is less than the F15 (but headroom in the G-Class will allow you to wear a British wedding Fascinator..ha ha ha)

I think the interior is well done, exterior is just ok to me. I don't like the rear hip line/hump at all. Seems like an after thought to me and disrupts the clean lines the e70 and f15 have.

I think it looks great. Will wait and see it in the flesh, then see what deals can be done.

I’ll need to toss up between getting more for my car and less discount on the new one when it comes out, or waiting to see what discounts are available once it’s been out a while, but getting less for mine.

As with most new models also consider the number of issues it'll have in the early months...

So far (probably until it grows on me) I prefer the exterior of the F15 by far. Talking about M-Sport of course.

The rear of the G05 is not nearly as aggressive as the F15. The front grille is also ugly to me but the headlights are far superior to those on the F15.

The interior is superior to the F15 as expected.

Overall the G05 is not a car that makes me feel like my F15 is outdated. Kind of bittersweet cause I was expecting the G05 to be a complete game changer.

I don't have the numbers but the X5 does feel wider inside than the Grand Cherokee. Back seats definitely feel wider.
