Tracking production. Again. A therapeutic post

I currently lease ’16 f80 and have 7 months to go. My plan was to cross-shop Audi RS5, Alfa Gulia Q and Jag F-Type this summer. I knew deep down that most likely I’d be leasing another f80, ZCP this time around.

Mid Feb, I learned that f80 allocations might become scarce and contacted multiple dealers about getting out of the lease early. Couldn’t do pull ahead, but trade-in turned out to be a wash, so I placed the order.

2/26. “Order placed” with promised March allocation. Got $6,500 off MSRP. Thought this was a pretty good deal.

Never was a fan of YMB online, but every time I saw it in real world, I loved it. F'ing loved it. A week after I placed the order, I started having second thoughts about the color. I’m in my late forties and I should probably stick with something more conservative, a little voice in my head said.

My friend just ordered TB, so I started to contemplate color change. So, I changed my order to TB.

Impulsive decision, because I never liked how dark blue clashes with black trim and CF roof.

A week later I tried to change to YMB, but dealer said that once individual color order is placed it can not be changed.

After some back and forth between BMW NA, Genius and the dealer, it turned out that unless order went to status 150, it can be changed. Yes, I thought this was common knowledge but dealer was pushing back.

So I got it changed back to YMB. Part of the reason I changed the color was because TB order production dates kept getting pushed back. First it was week 14, then week 17…lete May…

That was 3/25. Car went into production on 3/29. It should be finished next week.

So that’s the gist of the post. I’ll keep it updated to help me cope with the anguish of chasing the next bright shiny thing. Even if it’s the same, just different color. Those who understand will get it.

Congrats on your order. I am ordering a yas myself tomorrow morning . You are right about yas looking so much better in person rather than online pictures.

Congrats on the order! The one wingnut color I was considering was YMB given that it was different and not super obnoxious, but I could only get online photos, etc., and that was not enough to convince the commanding officer of the household. I really wanted SS and we both loved it but production and ceased for that color. Went with Mineral White and have not looked back. Always had white cars but this was enough to make it really special especially with the CF hood, and full blackout treatment (I did kidneys, deck spoiler, and M badge on the boot; side grills are coming as well).

Eager to see you document your ordering experience. Love the way each order can be so custom tailored. Congrats again.

You made a good choice with MW. I currently have AW and really like it. I was considering getting white again, but wanted a change. Congrats on your order!

I was wondering about silverstone, I am ordering a 2018 w comp pack and was having a hard time deciding between MG and SS. I’ve noticed that bmwusa doesn’t show SS as a factory color anymore so it looks like my decision has been made for me. I thought maybe it was because of my device and the websites tendancy to be a little glitchy in the build area, but sounds like SS is no longer available?
I currently have a 2015 m4 in YMB and love the color but it was time for something different for me. It looks really different in various light, I’ve always felt black wheels and accents enhance the look.

I love the YMB. If I didn't daily my car to work (don't want to be flashy so went black) YMB would be my first choice.

Our cars have similar production. My build was week 13 (last week in March), actual production completed on 4/4. Have you called Genius to see if yours has been completed yet? Im hoping to get on a ship this week or next. Are you east coast or west?

btw - i have always been an Audi fan. And i LOVE the RS5 Sportback. BUT its not available in stick. BMW holding strong with MT. Which is a must for me. Otherwise, the RS5 Sportback and the C63 S AMG make good competitors. Once BMW goes auto only, i'll probably move on from sedans and get into a Cayenne or X5. I think. Or maybe an M5. lol

I currently have a 2015 m4 in YMB and love the color but it was time for something different for me. It looks really different in various light, I’ve always felt black wheels and accents enhance the look.

So I considered MG too, but it just killed the lines on the car. With all the great fenders and air intakes, I felt it camo-ed them to a certain degree, but it is a great option. It was my color of choice for the M2. Just felt it wore it better, but I went with my heart and stuck with the F80.

So, I asked my CA no less than 5 times to give me a quote for port-installed splitters, front lip and spoiler.

Talked to sales manager twice about it.
She told me both times she's on it. She didn't brush me off. We talked for good 10 minutes (she has M2 and is enthusiast too)

That was 2 weeks ago.

As much as I understand "give us all 10s, please" request, I'm not there yet.

My car finished final stage of production (QC I think) but has been stuck there since last Tuesday. Genius and bmw USA don’t seem to know why it hasn’t moved since then. Don’t they know I need constant updates????

A little late to the show but SS is officially done. It is a non-select on the dealer's in-house configuration tool. CA sent me a screen shot when we were initially building my car.

Genius just updated this morning on mine. It’s on a train heading to port now. Finally! Production completion was originally estimated for 4/4, but didn’t complete officially until 4/10.
