Bearings, Bolts - Glutton For Punishment w/a Question
New guy here and I just picked up 2010 E92 DCT w/16,000 miles. Car is awesome, makes big noises, HOA is not happy. Total win.
I've scheduled an appointment to have BE rod bearings, BE-ARP bolts and new motor mounts installed. Under the category of "while they're in there" are there any thoughts on other items that should be addressed? I'm not a stranger to all this. I own an S54 Z3 M Coupe, an S54 Z4MR and have had the life enriching experiences of dealing with rod bearings, vanos, shift pins, rear sway mounts and trunk floor welds (thus glutton for punishment). I'm a big believer in "it's probably going to happen and if it does it's going to be bad, so get in front of it." |

The E9X is fortunately much more reliable than the other cars
Not really anything else that's needed. The TA's I personally won't replace until they fail Good choice with the bearings and bolts |

Wow now that's some preventative maintenance lol. Your crank will thank you. You pretty much hit the nail on the head of what you should get out of the way. Both things you're doing are a little premature but whatever lol.
Maybe you can have them inspect the DCT for leaks? That's more of a time thing I'd assume than a mileage thing. AS the gentleman said above leave throttle actuators alone till they fail. That's a mileage/abuse type failure. If you like performance mods maybe have a crank pulley installed while they're down there. Should free up some hp/tq plus faster revving. |

Most of us M Coupe guys hang out over at bimmerforums and this list would be a lot longer for a new owner. Replacing seat bushings, sagging glove boxes, a spinning cabin temperature control and a leaking rear view mirror are the minor "oh, by the way, this will happen" stuff that are part of that ownership experience. |

If it's 16k miles, not sure I'd bother even doing rod bearings.

Check for DCT leaks and upgraded subframe bushings if you are a fan of that stuff.

16k, engine has just about been broken in. Sure I'll eventually replace my shells but this start to come close to overly OCD bro!

If you're going to do RB's while you own it, go ahead and do it now to get it out of the way. I just had a friend at the shop last week who had BMW replace his original engine that blew at 17k miles. Mileage has little to do with when these engine pop. The peace of mind is worth it.
To answer the question, the only thing we plan to do "while we're in there" is engine mounts. We check everything else out and take care of anything we find, but the mounts are the only thing to really plan ahead for. At 16k miles, yours are probably fine but they're still 8 years old and for how little the mounts cost its probably still worth doing. |

$2500 or $15,000 for a used engine. Maybe even $20,000 depending on labor. The engine you fine might be a used engine with high miles. The engine will probably still need to have the bearings done.
$2500 well spent. Follow your instincts. Get it done. Maybe spark plugs. |

I did mine on the 2013 E92 while it was still under the original warranty. The car had 30k miles on it because BE hadn't released them yet. I did the 2011 E90 a few weeks after buying it with 36k miles. If I ever complete the trifecta and buy an E93 I will do them right away as well I don't want to think of RBs when driving the car. You do not really amortize them, so if you plan on ever doing them i don't see a good reason to wait and not be able to sleep well at night. |

Just got my rod bearings done...the shop has a 2009 E93 M3 in right now with a blown motor due to rod bearings. They are replacing the engine, in and out the door it is costing the owner $15k.
Get the job done and don't look back. It cost me $2250 OTD, including two motor mounts, using BE Bearings and BE ARP Bolts. |

I recommend Tuning Dynamics as well. They recently installed my BE Bearings/Bolts, Engine Mounts, and AA Supercharger. I’ve known Andrew for a long time and wouldn’t go to anyone else. Very trustworthy, great communication, fair prices, and more importantly great work.
(Mine is a 2012 with 30K miles)

Update - car goes in tomorrow for the bearing replacement. I'll post photos of the old ones when I get the car back later in week.
