LED addition to Bi-Xenon
Came across an interesting mod: LED module installation into your standard x5 Bi-Xenon headlights. As you probably already know, each x5 headlight has 2 "eyes" so to speak and only outer one works as a Bi-Xenon. While inner one is a fake one. Result is that when you turn on your low beams you only get 2 eyes working, not 4 eyes as BMW had for years - probably one of the most recognizable BMW brand features.
So some folks from Russia developed a LED module with a lens that goes into that inner empty eye in each headlight. That LED has both low and high beam. So basically you get both Bi-Xenon and LED working simultaneously for low and for high beams. LED light temp/color is matched to Bi-Xenon so they look same color. You get both better light output and you get back 4 BMW eyes. LED output is adjustable and they are aligned to match Bi-Xenon Price is about $400 including installation that takes 4 hours. Unfortunately it's only available in Russia. I wish someone here in US made such aftermarket option for those of us poor mofos who are left out without oem LEDs Last edited by DuSh; 02-07-2018 at 06:55 AM.. |

I have xenon lights with the two outer lights working as headlights and main beam. However the inner lights on mine work as cornering lights and come on when the steering wheel is turned in either direction.
All four lights still have the hallos permanently on. In hindsight I wish I had gone with the LED option but the xenons are still not that bad compared to my old Jag.

But they still "look" like Xenons. Part of what makes the LED so attractive is the aggressive design of the headlight assembly itself.

Mix'n'match = hot mess
You may get more total output, but the color and beam pattern will be worse IMO. No matter what they tell you about color matching, by default that's not possible unless you're using the exact same bulb/bulb type. I have LEDs and love the superior output/color, but I've always dissed on the use of reflector vs projector housings. The beam pattern is all over the place vs the sharp cutoff from a projector.

This would be cool and something I'm interested in.
EU guys, I think that cornering light is EU specific. I don't believe we get it here in the US. As far as I know we only have the fog lights come on as cornering lights. I could be wrong though as I haven't done much research on this topic. |

I wonder how useful a corner light that sits so far toward the center of the vehicle could be all that useful. The fog lights are actually angled and do an amazing job lighting up the gutter and side walks and I love them. Anyone got some pics of the view with them off and an to compare?
