I've found most running these four tires:

Pirelli Scorpion Verde
Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT ROF

They seem to be a good choice but only come in 285/40/20

what size are you looking for in the DWS06? I'm running them currently in the stock staggered sizes, 275/40/20 and 315/35/20.

I am actually running them on my 35d on 449 wheels 265/50/19 they look nice and beefy original tire size is 255/50/19 so its 1 size width up, I just bought the car and they came already equipped with them, the rears are at 80% and fornt are at 50%. so they are not new but we just had a snow storm here in CT and I did some fun driving in the snow some drifting and going up steep hill. I must say for where they at they did handle quite well, I mean on deep snow the front was starting to slide going down hill but theres not at lot of meat left on the fronts at about 50% so that is probably why, other wise they great no complaints. Next weeked I'm heading up to Vermont where theres alot of snow right now and I will get second chance to test them further.

Since I am running a square set up I think I will try the 285/40/20's. They are only about 4mm taller than the stock 255/50/19's. Non directional too.

$791.00 delivered

Why not just go with the DWS06 in the stock 275/4020 size? They are about $930 shipped from tirebuyer.

They are easily the best rated all seasons you can buy right now and heavily reviewed by the consumer public, tire rack etc...If you are going to get an all season, may as well get the best one available.

I have used the Continental tires before and like them. The Nitto reviews are good and the Contis are as well... it is hard to decide which is best. Since I have had the DSW06 before thought I would try the Nitto.

Unlike the DWS06 the Nitto's can be rotated form side to side as well as front to back.

Makes sense. If you go with them, let us know what you think. For my 22s, Nitto420s is one of the few tire options in the staggered sizes I'm planning to use so I may end up using them as well.

I don't know if it's still true, but there was a saying back in the day:

Nitto: sucky sucky long time.

Not much help, I know.

I did have a set on a prior X5 (a '99 4.4) and they were okay. Nothing special, they lasted a little better than average, and I don't recall any obnoxious road noise with them, but that was a fairly loud truck.

How many miles can be expected out of the Contis? I have to replace my Pirelli RFs, which wore out rather quickly. I am thinking of going back to Pirellis but if Contis are good, I'll sacrifice the run flats...

I recall seeing that most people are getting 25k - 30k miles out of the staggered Contis. Or maybe what I am recalling is that Conti's mileage warranty on staggered setups is 25k or 50% of the mileage on setups that can be rotated.

That's much better than the Pirellis. I guess I'll go with the Contis
