That would drive me nuts. Does the plate that it's anchored to on the floor rotate? An older car of mine had a similar issue, and it was just a matter of rotating the anchor plat to untwist the belt. Although in your case it looks like it's a half twist.

A bit off topic... I've never seen the rear interior of the F82, and noticed that plate on the floor looks cheap, almost like an afterthought. Have they updated that in subsequent years? Not being a dick, just an observation and honest question.

I have the 'vert, so different seats, but the same thing occasionally happens - it seems to go in cycles: one month every day, other months never. weird.

I've not come across this in my M3 yet, but here is how I've fixed it in other vehicles:
- raise the buckle high on the belt
- fold the belt over itself so the back is now facing you (pic)
- force the buckle down while keeping the belt folded. Getting the "point" of the fold into the buckle slot is the hardest part.
- push the buckle down the belt while keeping the fold from just sliding and not changing (this will make more sense as you try it)
- when you get to the end and the buckle is about to come off the folded belt, it can take a little force

When I took the pic, I noticed the slot in the buckle is really tight on this car, so this may take some doing, but it got flipped somehow, so it should go back.

One time mine began to twist and stuck in place folded where it enters the opening. It took some doing but I managed to work it flat again. I suspect that you could twist it back, or let the dealer do it.

^ This

The seatbelt itself is not twisted. It is simply the sliding latch that got reversed with use. It has happened to me also. Doing as described above will resolve your issue. Reversing the anchoring point, as others have suggested, is not to be done.

I guess that could be it. It’s hard to tell in the pic. I just thought OP would have known they can just flip the buckle.

Happened to me a few times in my rush to put belt on. PIA to get it unstuck while driving.

I was hoping it was just the latch being twisted but it's not. I've ran into the twisted latch many times due to child seats but this isn't the case here. it's like the belt is twisted once and placed into the hook that connects to the floor incorrectly. I wonder if that belt is meant for the passenger side?

So it’s just a half twist? That’s really odd. Can’t see any to fix that besides taking it apart. If it’s a full twist, like i said in my original reply, you may be able to turn that floor plate as I’ve done in a previous car.

Hmm. The first pic is like an optical illusion that you can see either way. I see what you are saying. Has it always been like that? Have you tried pulling the full length of the belt out and seeing if it somehow got a half twist that rolled into the retractor? Though it may always stay in there behind the top guide. Looking back at your pic, maybe try putting the half twist in that fixes it and then drop that over the top guide and let it drop in behind the trim panel. I'm putting my figurative internet money now that that is what happened; half twist in the belt as you got out and let the belt retract.
