Looking to get a tune to clear CEL, any recommendations??
Hey guys,
So I recently installed a Bimmerworld race x-pipe paired with a aftermarket rear section, sounds great and install was a breeze, engine is stock except for AFE filters. My shop recently installed double o2 fouler spacers for me and CEL didnt come on for 2 weeks, but it came back on just today. Im 99% sure its because of the o2 sensors and not something else but will have my shop verify come Monday by coding. Ultimately, I wanted to see if o2 foulers could clear the CEL since it is the most cost-efficient method but it has failed me so I wanted to ask you guys which tune would you recommend for my set-up? I would like to get a tune that includes something similar to the DCT software upgrade because downshifting is very rough for me right now but also would like a tune that contributes to performance. Ive ruled out the Akra Delete-R, havent heard good things about them so the only option left is to get a tune or drive with CEL on (which I'd rather not do). And if you guys have a vendor recommendation that can also offer forum discount, I would appreciate it too! Thanks again for your help. Last edited by M3Division; 12-03-2017 at 01:58 PM.. |

Some States have no emission inspections (like Fla.). Here in Conn. it's every two years, the first four exempt if bought new. There are variations of sorts, one time one year exemptions if you pay the minimum $$ for attempted repairs by certified shops, etc. NY has testing yearly. California seems the worst from what I've read. Many tuning shops will sell a tune that the OP is looking for, legal or not, although some that were are no longer doing so (Dinan for one). One just need to be aware of what may be involved down the road..... |

I don’t believe even the Dinan tune passes emissions, but it did remove the check engine light.
I’m not aware of any tune that will pass emissions without the rear cats. |

Many will but they are all illegal for street use. They incorporate rear 02 simulators. Many on this forum with such tunes on their cars. But no smart tuner will write publicly about this option or sell such a tune to someone they do not know and trust. The EPA increased its threatening sellers of defeat devices a few years ago — there are hefty fines.
