Update for Remote starts?
So I've searched the forum and saw a few threads and most useful one seems to be the one below:
http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...t=Remote+start Just wondering if there have been any updates or other companies people have found? It seems from what I read most systems had their own glitches here and there where it seemed it would interfere with BMW system and comfort access. Maybe some glitches have been worked out as well Thanks! |

I hate when people are super negative about things, but aren't aftermarket remote starters the cause for several of the BMW fires reported? I'm sure properly installed and high quality ones can be safe. Let us know what you find out.

I have comfort access and recently installed the flashlogic module, only have one keyfob as well. I was able to get it installed/programmed/keyfob cloned without any issues. It remote starts the car and all comfort access functions work no problem. The problem comes when I actually drive it (whether remote started or by button) - every time I came to a near stop I would get a start malfunction error saying "may only be able to start the car by start button and depressing the brake pedal" blah blah. Weird part was the remote start still worked. After re-seating all connectors and checking all the looms for issues, reset/reflashed/recloned, I still had the issue. Ended up taking it out because of the non stop chiming/alerts.
On their website they have some bulletins posted about having to dedicate one of the keyfobs to the clone after a certain update to car modules but nothing mentioned for BMW's. I have a new keyfob sitting at the dealership I need to pick up, hoping to reinstall the flashlogic with the the current key clone and use the new keyfob as my everyday key without issue. Hopefully just a security issue. Was also a little bummed about the amount of time it takes to remote start, thought it was going to be much quicker than 20 seconds to go though the procedure. ^ Would like to read more about these fires?? |

Oh boy, this is one of the few points where Americans and Europeans are totally different.
In Germany it's legally forbidden to run the engine idle. This is no fun here... people will scratch your car... waste of gasoline and pollute the environment is a crime against all of us. If you want a hot car in winter buy the car with pre-heater. If you want to remote controll it beyond the reach of the radio remote control use the BMW online services (F15) or install the ThermoCall module from BMW (Webasto) (E53, E70, F15) I'm pretty sure that BMW USA will discuss waranty issues when a remote starter is installed to the car. In Germany the Police, the insurrance company and the registration office will discuss many things with you. Last edited by Akkunasenbohrer; 08-17-2017 at 09:24 AM.. Reason: forgot something |

I've had this on my X5M for almost a couple years now, works fine. I wish I could get a longer range remote (the Viper remote I have installed on my Harley F150 works up to 2 miles away, works while I'm still in the building and has better active communication via the remote and what the cars doing) but the claimed 1500' is still enough that it'll work when I exit my building. Was pretty much plug and play, took about 3hrs from start to finish.

Hi,
I've had this on my 2008 4.8 for 2 years and it works great! It was plug and play, no wiring mods, just a couple of connectors and you're done. Programmable so you can change how the various features work also. http://www.idatalink.com/product/pro...hicle_id/15669 Paired it with this remote, FYI: https://www.compustar.com/remote-start/pro-t11 Range is great and having the feedback on the status of the vehicle and also vehicle battery voltage is a nice to have. ** The X5M is supported by the same model. Enjoy, John

While mowing my lawn...my neighbour had a small gathering of friends arrive for some small soiree they were having. At one point (while I was mowing) I thought I saw one of their guest's vehicle that looked like their headlights may have been on...but since it was late afternoon...I dismissed it as the sun reflecting on the headlights....and kept on mowing About 1½ hours later (as I was off the rider, now) and finishing some clean up with the electric blower...when the blower was off...I could hear the sound of an engine running. I looked across the street at the car that looked like its headlights were on...and sure enough...the engine had been running that entire time. I informed my neighbor that one of his guest's car was running...the guy's wife came out and turned it off...and sure enough...he had sat on the remote and started the car. That puts remote start in the column for me. Unless I'm in the process of a robbery and need a quick get-a-way...I can't think of a reason I need to have the car running prior to getting in. Heated seats & steering wheel...along with the engine-warm up-cycle...is good enough for me. |

FlashLogic
I installed this one a couple years ago and it's been trouble free...the only issue that I have with it is that you have to press the lock button 3 times to activate the remote start, then after that, it takes around 15 seconds for the car to start. I think there's also an add-on that enables you to use your mobile phone to start the vehicle as well.

Hi Qsilver7,
I agree with what you are saying, but wanted to give you some info on the remote starts for the X5 E70, at least the one that I have... First, the remote that I have is a 2 way remote, so it gives visual (on the display), audio (tone) and tactile (vibrates) feedback/indication when the engine is started. Various different remotes (or your Phone if you like) will provide differing options, but the reason I have the one I do is to know the status for vehicle (doors locked, engine running, lights on, etc) even if I'm not wanting the start the vehicle, I can see it is locked and secure. On my remote, the start button is recessed, so it would be "almost" impossible to accidentally start the vehicle, but I would know if I did... Second, the remote start system, again the one I have, has a programmable run duration of between 3 and 35 minutes (I have mine set at 5 minutes). After this time, the vehicle is turned off if not unlocked and driven. So, no danger of having your X5 run for hours without you knowing it... Thanks, John

You should be able to configure your system as well... Buy the needed cable (ADS-USB on eBay) so you can program/configure the system. Click on the Flash your Module in the upper right corner of the web page: http://www.flashlogic.com/ Then setup an account on their web page (freelance installer) and you can Flash your module. You will need to remove the modules from the X5, as the system is configured with your PC and the USB cable via their web page. Very cool, actually. Here's a DIY for a BMW 135i, but pretty much the same for the E70. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1182876 Cheers, John
