Long Term appeal of non-gray scale cars
Sakhir Orange, Austin Yellow, Yas Marina Blue...
You know what colors I'm talking about. I like to hang on my cars for awhile, and AY has caught my eye. However, I wonder how much I'll like it after year 3 or even year 5? Gray scale cars (MWM, AY, MG, etc) look great, but tend to blend in with all the other gray scale cars around here. Has that crossed anyone else's mind? |

For me, LSB came out in '01 and still looks fresh today.

I don't intend to keep this car after 3 years, but in all honesty, my last 3 cars where white, then 1 dark grey, then two silver ones, a black one, a maroon and a black one. The last two cars of my wife where grey and white. My next daily driver looks like it's going to be white. Guess I'm predictable.

Have had my SO M4 for about three years - not even close to tired of it. Agree.

I had mineral white and got tired of it after two years. My M4 on order is SO.
And whenever I see a Phoenix Yellow E46 M3 I can't stop staring at it. |

Tired? No. I still look back at my 2015 multiple times when parked as I enter year 3. However there are times where I'd like to roll up low key. And AY doesn't do that.
But I would not get this car in a "tame" color. If you go for a "big" color, the best scenario is that you have an alternate ride you can use for those times when you want to not show up with a spotlight on you.

If you are not sure / asking, might be best to stick with black, white, gray or silver.

I just don't like the contrast of the blue brakes to the other colors... I feel like they should have a different color for each of the ones where it doesn't make sense... like SO

I feel like I'd get that way with red leather seats, but after a year I'm not even remotely tires of my Yas M, and really can't get enough of it. 9 of my last 11 cars were white, with the other to being silver and charcoal. I was determined to get anything BUT white on this one and couldn't be happier.

Better question: what's the long term appeal of gray scale colors?

Exactly! I've had several black cars that I really liked but the only cars I still remember with real fondness were red or blue, including my last three BMW's (and my M's were black!)

I think your real question is whether you want attention long-term or just for a few years. Eyes will always be drawn to colors like AY and YMB. If you want stealth, MG and the like are for you (and definitely for me!).
If you are truly undecided, buy a MG or SS and have it wrapped in the bright color of your choice. In a few years, if you want to go stealth, just take the wrap off.
