Looking at a New Set of BMW Wheels
I saw a red E92 a couple weeks back with these stock wheels and love them. I already have a set of 225 front and 245 rear Pilot Super Sport tires to use with them.
The fronts are 18" x 8" ET:34 (part# 6775609). The rears are 18" x 8.5" ET:37 (part# 6775610). We have a set of at work oddly enough so I test fit. I love the look but I think they're sitting out too far. I've also never test fit wheels before so maybe I am wrong. What do you all think? According to my calculations, it will sit 10mm closer to the fender Thanks!

You're going to have rubbing in the rear for sure....ET37 is 15mm closer to the fender than the stock 18x8.5 ET52 wheels. Don't think this fitment will work without a fair amount of bodywork.

I begged the parts manager long enough to let me mount a tire and check the fitment on the ground. I think it will actually work.
It sits flush with the fender but there is a 20mm gap between edge of the wheel and the fender.

Recall also that the rear suspension of the E8X/E9X also picks up negative camber nicely as it goes through travel. Accordingly, flush with 1" of vertical clearance probably means well inboard of the fender by the time it's moved through the suspension that much.
For what it's worth, I run an 9" +45 rear wheel with a much bulkier tire (Bridgestone RE71-R 255) which is about the same and it fits just fine even with my low settings. I have about -2.1 degrees of negative camber which is the LEAST negative camber I can get because it cambers in so much as it goes through the travel. I also love those wheels and think they look fantastic on the 1. Mark

When the car is in the air with no compression on the suspension, it might look like they'll stick out too far. When you compress the suspension, the wheel will camber in a little. It looks like these will be a good fit on your 1er!

Agreed the wheels look fantastic.
My recommendation/thoughts were based on me running stock 18x8.5 ET52 rears with a 10mm spacer, and 255 width Bridgestone RE760 (not as wide as a PSS or RE71R). I have a Bilstein B12 kit, running -2.2 negative camber in the rear. This rim setup with the spacer is equivalent to an 18x8.5 ET42. I had rubbing on both sides under compression on bumps, to the point where I needed a mild fender roll (most of the rubbing was at the rear where the fender meets the bumper). I still get mild rubbing of the fender liner, to the point where the tires have worn a hole in the liner... All I can say is thoroughly test the car on heavily loaded bumps so you are putting the suspension through its full travel. And do it again if you ever lower the car further... |

I got the front in today and mounted one up. It sticks out the front fender by a whole 10mm.
I am completely bummed. My first choice before these was a set from VMR. Really digging the set of the new V801. I love the mesh look of the competition wheels off the new M3/M4. I have a spare one a customer replaced due to curb rash. It doesn't come close to fitting, even mounting a front on the rear. Maybe I need to wait to see if the 801's will fit on the E82....

One of the parts guys convinced me to toss a tire on a front wheel and fit it. I had previously only mounted a wheel and it didn't look right.
Anyways, I mounted one up and it looks awesome on the ground. Drove it around a bit, no rubbing yet. Looks like a baby 1M.

They are BMW Style 197 wheels, originally off an E92. I put the part numbers in the original post. From what I've read, it may be made by BBS. It doesn't have any BBS marking on it though.

They look great on your car. Thanks for documenting the process, I've been looking at some wheels with similar size and offsets.
Can you get some more pics showing how far the fronts are flush/stick out. |

More pics with measurements. All pictures are links to larger images.
I took a ruler against the top of the tire so it laid flat over the tread and stuck outside the fender. I measured that height to the fender. I also took the ruler and tried to measure straight against the sidewall and measured that distance to the fender. 20mm between the top of the front tire to the front fender. Sidewall of the front tire sticks out approximately 12mm outside the front fender. 24mm between the top of the rear tire to the rear fender. Sidewall of the rear tire sits flush with the rear fender. I drove it again today, still haven't heard any rubbing. Running on the M Performance struts and springs all the way around. No other suspension mods.

How much did your car "drop" with the Perf package?
That stance looks perfect! Has anyone ridden in your car? Just wondering if there will be rub with multiple people riding. |

My girlfriend has been in the car with me. Probably 330lbs between the two of us in the front seats. No back seat passengers but a full tank of gas. I'll have to haul my old set of wheels and tires back home, I can update again. |

It rubs on rare occasions but it only very minimal. I think a fender roll would stop it completely but considering how rare it happens, I probably won't bother.
Most often occurs with a change in road height driving 60+ MPH. City driving, it maybe rubbed 2-3 times since the swap. No rubbing when I had the full set of wheels and tires in the trunk. Probably the only thing I've hauled other than groceries. These wheels really set the car off nicely. I would buy a set, you'll be very happy with them The combo with PSS tires is a bit much on a 128i. So much grib, even difficult to break the tires loose now from a stop. |
