Summer tires soon?
The weather has been pretty good and the 14 day trend also looks good. I'm just waiting on some rain to clean the roads a little and I will probably switch over this weekend.
What are you guys saying? |

If your car has winter tire insurance premium rebate, check your policy coverage on when the winter tires have to be on til (end of March or sometimes in April, as typical). If you get into an accident due to weather element and you have your summer's on, well, you know you are in one heck of a claim dispute (in worst case scenario). Just saying.

Im booked in at Budd's end of the first week in April. I questioned if that was too early and they didn't think so and I suspect that they wouldn't want any liability for pushing too soon.

I don't believe we have sufficient traction with extreme summer tires (even in the dry) when the temperature is at or below10C, and even then I think we're 'playing with fire' especially with the M's power. I lost traction in my e92 about 5 years ago, at below 10C, which put me into a back and forth 'into the highway divider or into the ditch' struggle for what was probably 4 seconds but felt like half an hour... Once I cleaned up my pants I decided to pay a little more attention to temperatures lol. I'm 60+, have my fun, but a safe driver. nonetheless, the beast got out of hand very quickly... The M4 seems to have better control, much better control in fact, but I'm still hesitant to change tires before the overnight hits 10.... Nice yesterday, huh?

Thanks for the feedback and insight.
It was nice yesterday and should be again on Sunday. I'm registered for Dancing with Cones upcoming April 23rd - another reason for my (over) eagerness in swapping onto the PSS. Hope to see you at one of the BMW Club events this year. |
