Installed the M Performance Steering Wheel - Pics inside

One of my favorite mods so far. It really makes the look and feel of the interior. Got it on sale, too - couldn't pass it up!

I have several friends who have added the M Performance Steering Wheel to their M2s, and M3/M4.

At least two of them always wear driving gloves with this wheel to preserve the Alcantara, based on their prior experience with Alcantara in earlier M3s. It might seem pretentious, but the oils and dirt from your hands will deteriorate the Alcantara over time, much more quickly than regular leather.

Small sacrifice. The feel is worth it! It cleans. And if it wears out; I'll just buy another wheel. Kinda like tires i guess. It's 100% worth it IMO.

So I have heard, but fuck it. I would rather buy another wheel than look like a pretentious dipshit for all that time just driving to work and the gym.

Wow, harsh crowd. And apparently with the money to treat steering wheels like expendable tires. I guess that I just don't know anybody like that.

Not intended that way. Point is, I am no longer so precious about my cars. I used to just look at them and try to keep miles off. I have learned to enjoy what I have and realize that everything has a useful life. If that means my alcantara wears from use, all good. That just means I am actually using what I have for its intended purpose. Maybe it's Aristotle sinking in. Maybe I am just getting old(er).

You can minimize the wear with a good cleaning regime

Swissax alcantara cleaner + blot dry + dry soft bristle brush

forget the wear and tear on that steering wheel, do you all see the loose leather on the seat?? send the car back!!

j/k - i like that wheel. probably a future upgrade for me as there is no chance i will ever turn on a steering wheel heater in florida. a steering wheel ventilation kit i could get on board with though

Seriously considering this wheel. Is it possible to use the factory trim or do you need to buy the carbon fiber trim due to the flat bottom of the wheel?

You can use the stock piece it fits on this performance wheel. I like the look of the carbon fiber trim but for an extra 300 I'm not so sure. I've been on the fence for this performance wheel for a while now too

Heated steering wheel came with the Exec Package on my '16 M4. I didn't even remember that I had it during Euro Delivery in May, even when I was in snow-covered Alps, and then "discovered" it last summer after redelivery when I had a chance to really go over the car.

In San Diego, I've ever only used it twice this "winter" when the temp got into the low 50s a couple of nights. And then only for about 30 seconds.

Not to thread jack but this is part of the reason why I want a steering wheel just like OPs but with perforated leather where the Alcantara sections are. Anybody know where I can get that? Anybody would do a custom wheel like that?

leather they used is very good quality

i too paid to have the heated steering wheel option, but reality is ive never used it on any cars, i just hate blank switches

the only thing i dont get with the mp wheel is the blue stripe. they should have done it in m tri color like fiat did on the tributo

I've been very keen on one of these wheels since they came out.

I saw a used C63 (older model) the other day and the Alcantara looked like typical leather it was that oiled and flattened.

Looked disgusting.

I'm assuming that if you maintain it, or simply don't sweat much through your hands, it'll be fine anyway.

Dude to be honest when I see the glove action on everyday driving I just laugh. It's a good feeling steering wheel, FEEL it no need to protect it.

Good looking wheel, I like the mix of leather and Alcantara. I always found the full alcantara wheels stood out too much in the car.

Id say enjoy the wheel gloveless, sure gloves will protect the wheel, but why spend on a nice wheel if you cant feel it

I agree-- no gloves! Just wash your hands more often guys! -- protect against cold/flu; and, preserve your alcantara wheel! I likely won't reinstall my finished leather wheel.
