Stuck in middle of road 16 5.0 Msport

We were third in line at a stop sign, and when we went to accelerate, the car shifted into park. Every time I put into drive, it pops right back into park. Checked all the doors, hood hatches, shut car off, did virtually everything, and car was dead in the water. Had to have police direct traffic around us, and get towed to closest dealership.

We didn't buy this car at that dealer, so they didn't want to give us a loaner (apparently, we're only supposed to drive these within the radius of the dealer we purchased at), had to cancel a summer weekend away, and the car will not be repaired for at least a week.

Dealer says it needs a new megatronics unit, which of course isn't at the local parts distribution center.

3k miles on a $95k truck, and left for dead in the middle of the road. Im not happy.

Welcome to the club.

These cars are like that sour patch candy commercial. At first it's sour but then it oh so sweet.

I don't think any one of us here would be surprised. BMW's are not reliable cars that's for sure.. One of the most common comments from BMW owners are "would never own a BMW out of warranty". But they are fun and sexy cars and that's why most of us buy them.

I agree. At the end of the day, the dealer (regardless if you bought it there or not) will make money on the warranty claim to BMW. So it's not like they're giving you a loaner for free.

didn't have a loaner available or didn't give because you didn't purchase? huge difference. if it is the latter i would seriously consider contacting BMWNA to file a complaint, especially if this hiccup impacted your plans. i have never been denied a loaner despite where i chose to maintain/service or repair any of my vehicles.

Sorry to hear this happened, but you 100% should have gotten a loaner at the BMW dealership, whether you bought your car there or not.

At the very least they could have gotten a rental for you albeit probably a cheap one but they should have had your back smh

Regarding the loaner, they said its their company policy to not provide a loaner if the car was not purchased there. When he said this, I stood up and said "tow it to xxxxxxx dealer" which is about :45 away. At that point he said "calm down calm down, i can call enterprise but you'll have to pay for it" This is where I completely snapped.

After my temper tantrum, they got me a loaner (couldn't pick up until the next day), but i cannot take it out of state (even though its only 2 hours away) so summer weekend away was cancelled.

Further, they "enlightened me" to the fact that when I get the car back, the tow charge will be on my invoice because it wasn't towed by BMW Assist. The police called the tow truck to get it out of the middle of the road. However, I CAN do the work to get reimbursed by BMW after the fact. The customer service at this dealership is SO SO BAD, worse than the average horrible customer service you get everywhere these days.

Im so pissed about the whole thing. I've owned no less than 20 BMWs, I raced them professionally, and the reason I buy them from the dealer I do, is that they supported my racing, and are THE BEST guys as far as customer service goes. I should have gone with my first instinct and pulled the car when he first said no loaner.

Im biting my tongue until the car is repaired and returned, but after that...look out dealer and BMW.

There is a reason I now own 5 Porsches and one BMW, used to be the other way around. Maybe the wife should get a Cayenne

Good luck with that. BMW told me that at first, but after all was said and done they said go through insurance

Sad to hear about your ordeal. Unfortunately, Some dealers only care for their fat pockets, and fat bellies -ignorance. Hope you get your car fixEd. Don't let Car stuff ruin your weekend getaway.

Just give them a zero rating.

They love those.

How the hell would they know if you took the loaner out of state?

Here in Toronto area at least, they won't give you a loaner unless the car was purchased there, I think it's more of a courtesy not an obligation.
