This thing is cool. Furthest thing from the e92 M3 that I can imagine but I dig it for sort of a daily driver. The tech is nothing new - hybrid technology using a battery and internal combustion motor. But they use it the right way - the way that only Porsche previously implemented with their 918 with the battery motor driving the front wheels and the mid-engine driving the rears. Looks like it has a carbon fiber monocoque like the McLaren but maybe it's just carbon pieces and not full carbon. I assume this because the i8 weights a lot more the McLaren. This also makes the car hard to get in and out of unless you are young and dexterous. Drives very smooth. Not a sports car in any sense really. You aren't going to smoke people with this car. It's best attribute is the way it looks. So just chill and drive slow and get 90 mpg. Oh yeah no trunk. So it only makes sense if you have other cars. And are young. Oh yeah and a male, cause a woman getting out of this car would be showing her goods.

I got close to a deal this weekend but walked. Argued for a lease payment lower than has every been done and I was surprised that they even considered it. Have them calling me back. So who knows.

I think it could be interesting if a lease, but never as a purchase.

i don't see what the appeal of that car is. fun dd? sure. i've heard lots of grumbling on the forums/etc. that they don't get that good of mileage, and they aren't that fast.

The greatest strength is the looks and attention (if you're into that). One of my friends picked one of these up. Haven't had time to check it out yet, but from pictures it looks pretty amazing. I heard a couple of them drive by at autoshow. Ferrari WAHHHH, Lambo WAHHHH, i8...silent. #EVlife.

It's actually pretty quick in a straight line, it's faster than an M4.

Totally agree. In 3 years it will be old tech.

Agree if someone buys this as their only car or even as their second car it's a bad idea. In my case it will be my 6th car so I'd just use it to go to work and back.

Yeah I want the $148K MSRP Terra World I think is what the option is. Twist wheels and blue interior accents. We have high tax rates in the OC which I think is around 8% but despite that I got a lease deal all-in for no down and less than $1,500 per month and I still walked away from it. They are calling me today to see if they can go lower.

Haha there's quite a few in the OC. Maybe it used to be unique but I don't people even give it a second look anymore. It does have a futuristic look which I look but understand that stuff like this gets quickly dated.

It does get off the line pretty quicky and with the battery and turbo has gobs of torque. Felt about as quick as my old tuned n54 335i actually. Power dies up top. Maybe I can build up the little 1.5 litre petrol motor and put a bigger turbo

They are letting them go for under $1200/month here in Jersey.

I remember dealers were selling these for $200k+ when they came out. Now I see a ton of them sitting around. These will be the next 8 series.

i have an electric smart car as my commuter. i got it because i'm cheap, i know you have a different situation.

however, this stupid smart car gets more attention than the m3 or my rock crawler has ever gotten. lots of laughs, and very usable. believe it or not- decent power.

Interesting. Didn't think the i8 or i3 was much of an attention grabber actually. I've seen people recently pull up in i8's in crowded areas and no one even looked. That's one of the reasons I'm interested now...there's more of them around and people have seen them and they aren't a big deal. The tech is cool for a road car. The i8 uses the hybrid powertrain like the 918 but the i8 also has another small electric motor to assist the gas motor and also uses regenerative breaking. So it's likely the most advanced hybrid car out there. For a bargain now that demand has slowed to a crawl.

Have you considered the i3? We are leasing an i3 as my DD and it is EPIC. I love that car. So smooth and torquey down low. Great visibility. Very easy to park and get around traffic. Super quiet. The carbon frame and small size may it extremely nimble.

I think it would be a super cool compliment to your stable. Option that thing up and roll in style and comfort, my friend.

What did surprise me was how much I liked driving the i3 when I was getting my car serviced at Steve Thomas. I have to admit they are a lot of fun. If they had a little more oomph, like an i3 sport, I'd go for it.

I know like 2-3 guys who bought one and sold within a year. They got bored of the car VERY quickly and very tired of all the attention it gets (who wants tons of attention on a daily driver?)
