Is the M4 stereo better than the 4 series radio?

Just wondering if I'm going to get an improvement with the sound quality and all with my M4 over my current 435 which I got the upgraded stereo on or if it's about the same.

I have a 435 w HK and an M4 with HK and it is the same version with the same number of speakers and watts.I can not detect a difference and sometimes think it sounds better with the logic7 deactivated.

That would be an accurate statement. *Sometimes* your music will sound better with Logic7 deactivated. It really depends upon your source material.

For instance, I recently ripped the 5.1 mixes (both PCM and DTS), and the 2 channel PCM mixes (all at 24/96) from the Pink Floyd "The Endless River" Blu-Ray, and can tell you without a doubt that with Logic7 enabled the 5.1 mixes sounded amazing. The 2 channel PCM 24/96 recording, however, sounded best with Logic7 disabled.

I go back and forth with these all the time based on what i'm listening to. It's really a freaking pain in the ass

There really isn't a "go-to" on or off for me, unfortunately. I suppose there are some people that may have their entire library of music that would benefit from one or the other. Not me, however

Ah, ok. I was hoping for something a little more for my extra $20k. I know I get all the Mness. I was just thinking I'd maybe get an M level stereo as well.

Shouldn't be a surprise. The description of HK system for both the 435 and M4 is exact:

Harman Kardon® Surround Sound Audio System with vehicle-specific equalizing and powerful 600-watt amplifier; the 16-speaker system includes 6 tweeters, 4 midrange speakers located in the door panels and 2 midrange speakers located under the rear shelf space, 2 bass speakers located under the front seats, 1 midrange center channel speaker and 1 tweeter located in the instrument cluster

Yes, but I was still hoping for a little higher end offering for the extra $20k. I don't mind the system in my 435 though.

I don't understand people buying F8x and looking to get a high end sound system?? Yes, your car is $70-80k but doesn't mean its going to have a bad ass system. HK is good enough for what it has to offer, compared to other standard systems.

If you want a high quality sound system, you need to go aftermarket and spend some money, it can be as much upgrading mods.

Well, like I said, I'm fine with the HK system in my 435, but was thinking (wishfully) that for an extra $20k (or extra 40k compared to the 428) there would be an extra little something, even as an option for extra money. It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch.

Or buy a straight luxury car.... Like a 5 series.

I'd rather have the vast majority of that "extra $20k" go in the chassis, engine, brakes and suspension .

I'm a little biased, but if you're looking for that "something extra" at a very reasonable cost, we have lots of really happy M3 / M4 guys who've purchased our Stage One Speaker Upgrade / Ghost Underseat Subs.
