Does anyone take any of the offers from the finance person?
With my last few cars I always get the big push for all of the protection stuff and insurance at the last minute from the finance guy. They seem to throw this stuff on you last minute, almost as a surprise, when you haven't had any time to research it and then have been visibly upset when I took them up on none of it.
Wheel insurance for $1,300??? In my last 25 years of driving I've never broken a wheel or had more than 1 tire issue/car so I can't see a reason to take your wheel insurance Mr. Finance guy. I can't imagine any of them are going to be worth it when I do the paperwork for this car in a few weeks.

They are not, which is why they are pitched at the last minute in hopes that you will buy some of them just to get out of the dealership.
I personally don't know anyone who bought anything, but a few folks on these forum claim they have. a

I bought the tire and rim insurance on our last two cars. I only did it because the roads here are bombed out POS from Iraq. I used it for one tire in the last 3 years. It's better to just put that cash in a separate just in case account. We are two weeks out from our dual ED. I am anticipating the last min push for all the bullshit as well and won't be taking any of it.

I purchased the tire and wheels package this time around. I had to replace 2 rims on my previous 335is at $580 per because I went cheap on the last car.
It's extra insurance which for me in northeast us, pothole heaven NY, is worth it. Your mileage may vary.... ? |

Don't forget, those prices are negotiable. I bought tire and wheel, but at $700 over 3 years. Not $1300.
And as others said...depends on your roads. |

I bought tire and wheel insurance as well. All done over the phone so I wasn't even trying to get out of the dealer. I have also bought extended warranty while buying a car still under factory warranty. There are def advantages in buying stuff from the dealer

Here is how this conversation went when I was in the dealership.
Paperwork girl: tire insurance blah blah blah etc Me: hang on one second. What's your name? Paperwork girl: Cindy Me: Cindy, I'm going to let you in on a secret they don't tell you when they train you on this stuff. All of it is a fooking waste of money. Only suckers buy it. Paperwork girl: laughing out laud Definitely puts an end to the attempt to push that stuff. No one is going to try and overcome an objection like that. With that said when it comes to an M car I could see value in the extended warranty on the car. Mind you at 5k for an extra 3 years in Canada I'm kinda feeling like its a bit of s toss up. My previous 330i didn't have 5k worth of work during its 12 year life. |

There's some relatively worthless stuff and some stuff that has value.
Main thing is to read the fine print and look at the products in advance. To wait till the day of the purchase to make the decision. |

I took the tire/wheel insurance, which is good because I may or may not have curbed one wheel in the hotel garage in Zurich.

I hope anyone who's financing is taking gap insurance. You can shop it but usually is you come prepared you can sort it out.
BMW warranty can also be worn considering depending on circumstances. |

Depends how the roads are where you drive. Didn't go with it this time around, but when I was in NY had it on my other car and I used it up...roads there are way worse than where I am currently.

Check with your dealer on that. I paid a bit extra for my rims to be covered for cosmetic damage.

I always go for the wheel and tire insurance. With north Jersey roads, It has payed for itself over and over again. Think I've gotten at least 6 tires replaced due to bubbles.

If you have a Discount Tire nearby you can get replacement coverage on your tires (even if you didn't purchase from there). Runs about $100 per set. Obviously this won't help you with wheels, but the need to actually replace a wheel is rare and cosmetic repairs are relatively cheap.
To be extra safe you could purchase a full set of take offs from the for sale section for around $2k. If you need a new wheel then great, if not just sell the set when you sell the car to recoup most of your costs.

I took wheel and tire, gap, and extended warranty/maintenance. I must be a sucker, but on my last M when I curbed two wheels I felt like a sucker not having tire and wheel. I plan to keep the car for an extended period, thus the extended warranty/maintenance, which I'd rather finance at .9% over the long haul than have to pay lump sum cash for at the end of my term. I hate driving a car like this out of warranty. I just feel better knowing I'm covered, and to me that's worth the cost.

Anyone who lives in a state with potholes and battered roads (i.e. basically anywhere in the Northeast and the midwest) should absolutely consider the tire and rim insurance. Especially with the 19" or 20" options.
