Quick question about PDC and Parking Assist
I'm looking for some clarification on when PDC activates.
I was recently told that PDC only automatically activates when the X5 is in reverse. I was then told that adding Parking Assist to the order will enable PDC to automatically activate when slowly pulling into a parking space. The manual says that PDC will automatically activate while moving forward at slow speeds if you have the front PDC sensors which (unless I'm grossly mistaken) are standard equipment now on all X5's destined for the US. Is the manual wrong such that this functionality requires the Parking Assist sensors or is the dealer wrong and simply having PDC will allow the system to activate when at slow speeds? Thanks! |

PDC will activate at slow speeds regardless of Park Assist. Every time I enter my garage, I try to park pretty close to the wall, so as I'm pulling in, the chimes kick in.

We have park assist, so I am not much help. But according to the post above, the chimes kick in for him. With ours not only do the chimes kick in, but the cameras activate as well.
I would guess that is standard with only PDC, but the post above makes it seem like it isn't? |

I was at The Domain today and tried the Park Assist but I must have done something wrong as the car did not start "looking" for a parking spot. I'll crack open the manual later on today.

I have had it on three cars now, and am yet to have the patience for it to get it right. I just can't imagine it ever being faster than you parking the car yourself.

That's the main reason I've opted against the option so far. Between all the cameras and the X5 being a lot smaller than my Raptor, I think I'll be ok with the rare bit of parallel parking.

NY/NJ is all about parallel parking... I've had people visit me here and trying to park but fail big time lol.. I always end up having to park their car for them. .:P

I can confirm this. 2016 X5 with PDC and rear camera but no park assist or surround view. PDC warning automatically kicks in when driving forward when you're close to objects in front of you without having to manually activate it (just like Doanster, it happens when pulling in to my garage).
