GA Mountain Drive

Just finished a epic drive through the GA mountains to the NC border. My buddy fresh out of the box Mexico Blue GT3RS we were hauling through the turns. Three hundred miles round trip, and clearly the GT3's no garage queens. My buddy big Porsche owners break-in is drive it like you stole it, and he has never had a problem.

Nothing like a drive at 0630 to get the adrenalin going for sure. Temps mid 90's on the return the GT's were still hauling full of life no .......sweet engines at 9k RPM's......... The RS 88k and pulls like a mother. I think Porsche clearly under values horse power.

Recently completed Silverstone PEC with GT4 & 911 RS (+ 10 mins in Macan Turbo, but that's for another thread). Traction in RS was immense on damp/wet track and I found it very easy to feel and correct minor slides on corner exit. It really hit home how isolated the hydraulic PAS F10 M5 is, even though the RS rode slightly better than the M5 CP. Neither GT car felt that fast on track, predominately I believe, due to just how rigid they are and, thus, how stable they handle.

I personally found the PDK equipped RS much easier to drive faster than the GT4 as it inspired absolute confidence in the given conditions. I found the mid-engined car somewhat unforgiving in limit handling conditions. Manual transmission atrophy has also clearly set in

Volume of noise from GT4 exhaust was surprisingly high though and not the poor relation, in that respect, to the RS that I was expecting.

The 991.2 Carrera 4 seemed to be faster in the damp/wet conditions but I doubt they were more fun than the GT cars. Possibly a good choice as a DD replacement for the M5, at least for my intended use.

I can but wonder how good an RS would be in the dry. Now aiming to own GT3/RS after PEC; I know you've previous stated you would like to upgrade to 991 RS, have you driven both and, if so, how do they compare?

I didn't get a chance to drive my friends car as we were pushing for time, but he had a GT3 and said he can't tell too much difference as of yet. I will upgrade, but not pay a 60k mark up. With the financial melt down Friday some dealers may get motivated, if not I will keep my GT3 hands down. Really suits all my needs; I'm not really a fan of garage queens ...GT3 is special but you can drive it hard and clean it up. (:

Should we try and get another mountain run in before the end of the year?
