Daft question ref head light washers
My washers never come on, after 11,000 miles they haven't come on once, I'm beginning to think they're just blanks, if so I'd prefer it if they just fitted a smooth bumper without the cut outs.
What am I missing? As I thought they were standard with xenons?

Mine have never come on either, they have been checked by the dealership and they said they are working fine.
I don't car anyway just make a mess after you have cleaned the car! |

True they annoyed me in the past on that score, but mine certainly don't come on unless of course they are angled in such a way as to not spray above the bonnet but I doubt that.

Why would my lights have to be on? They are generally on the auto setting.

For the washers to kick in, the lights need to be on (could be in auto mode but should be illuminated). The logic is you clean something you are using not something you are not using, at that time.

In a way, I think if my headlamp washers didnt come on it wouldnt bother me due to them making a mess all over the bonnet!!!!!!!!
In my car I actually find myself just flicking the washer switch quickly, just to get enough to get fluid on the screen, but not enough to fire off the headlamp washers. Of course you need to manually flick the wipers a couple of times, but this doesnt bother me.

IMO be happy they haven't "squirted" yet. I had them on my 335 and absolutely hated them. Especially after you just washed the car and then they gizz all over your hood (or bonnet) as you blokes like to call it.
Mine haven't turned on either in a year of ownership.........thank goodness!

I think they're very well thought out.
Imagine you are driving in winter with lots of road salt, lights on, washers come on - perfect. Who cares about dirtying the car when it's covered in crap. Re squirting all over a clean car - why activate them in the first place? I don't even want to wet my windscreen after a wash and dry. And I believe it is illegal to use wipers if it is not raining. If it's raining, back to it's dirty anyway... |

Interesting, I was thinking the same thing after my night drive, I washed the windscreen and noticed nothing happening with the headlights. They were very noticeable in the F30, as soon as the main lights come on and you wash the screen the headlights would get done as well, then every tenth squirt afterwards or something (I tend to use too much soap mix it would cover the whole front of the car), but didn't see anything with this one and assumed it must be something to do with LEDs headlights! (I must have thought they shine through dirt better haha!)

Yea I guess its a different system in this car vs my 09 335. Those had no on/off, they came on every third or so pull. Also I didn't bother with snow tires for this car and leave it inside when the roads are full of crap.

mine have a mind of their own. then again i very very rarely wash the screen as i hate the mess. I have been known to get angry at cars in front that clean their own screen and hit me with their overspray. How dare they prioritise their vision over my clean bonnet.

I was told so when living in Germany. I thought it made good sense; consideration for others especially motorcyclists.

I can't speak for Germany but I'd be very, very surprised if that is a law in the UK in fact I'd be gobsmacked.
