Power steering loss help!!

I need ideas. I have an 08 128 and my power steering went out. Fluid is at par and there's no whining but it's ran by servotronic right? I don't really know a lot about power steering anyway cause I've never had a problem with any car and this is my first bmw. I wanna figure out if there's any hacks I can try or if it's gonna cost me a months pay to fix. Thanks in advance

Looked at the fuses there was no 40 so I looked at the 5. It's fine so I then put a 40 in no. 75. Neither worked fml.

Maybe something is up with the belt/pulleys. I remember my '35 made a loud squeaking noise, when I sprayed water on the serpentine belt it stopped. Bought new belt, proceeded to replace it; turns out my power steering pulley was completely cracked and missing a good chunk too. I would feel a looseness when turning, after new belt and replacing the pulley everything was golden.

Also, if you know anyone who has a service scanner, that plugs in to the OBD port you could check the issue. If your power steering is completely out, the system should throw out a fault code. Lastly, the obvious solution would be to get in touch with BMW service (though they're all crooks as well as amateur mechanics /s).

I think you need to look at these fuses... 5, 49, 75... if the power steering is the little drawing of the steering wheel on the chart.

Tried that first mine only calls for 49 & 75. 75 was the only one in there and it was fine. Tried both in and still nothing. Do you guys know anything about rack and pinion could that be it?

I'm trying to just get it to work so I can trade it in a couple weeks and get the full value. Hope this doesn't require a lot of money and effort

I don't think there are any electronics in power steering in an 08 128i. The pump is driven by the engine belt. If there is no power steering I would check the belt/pulley followed by the fluid. If those are fine, then I would think your pump has failed.

Those listed fuses are for vehicles equipped with active steering only.

Ok thank you guys. Think I would have heard if I had lost a belt and the steering kind of faded out gracefully so probably the pump huh

How many miles do you have? Is the problem intermittent or constant? If you lost the belt, you would loose the alternator as well, so other notifications would pop up in the cluster.

Or how about this. I wanna trade the car do you think I'd get considerably less if I don't replace the pump prior to trade?

Who knows, but probably. The pump is an expensive part. Labor is not bad.

It's right under the alternator. Should take an hour and a half to replace. Maybe two and a half max.
