Locking Car/Engine Running

Random question, I understand the M3 is fitted with Keyless Go as standard, will it allow you to start the car in winter, then lock it with the motor still running?
Just wondering as I often let the car warm up on the driveway, but would prefer to lock it if possible. (haven't got the F80 yet, but would be nice to know)

Is 'Keyless Go' same as 'Comfort Access'? In any case, with/without Comfort Access you can start the car and then lock it keeping the key with you.

I could do this on my 335d.

Yep cant see it being any different. Useful feature, start the car, get out and lock it up. Go inside and let it defrost.

Standard feature of all 3 series.

It is useful. But I have left the car before in car park and come back to it and it's been sat running.....

Think the stop/start must have kicked in, I got out of the car not pressing stop locked it and walk off, car started itself again......

Pretty bad for the car to start it cold and then let it warm up without moving.

I think that's a bunch of hype really. No reason cars can't idle indefinitely.

Yes, I would not recommend this on a new engine prior to the RIS. Even after not for more that a few minutes.

Think my neighbours would have a paddy. For winter, as I can't be arsed to put car in garage overnight, I use windscreen ice protector. Had one made for the 335d. Brilliant.

Since no one has given you a definitive answer as to whether it is possible to lock the door with the car running, the answer is YES.

BMW would disagree with you they tell you not to warm the engine at idle.

its in the manual not to warm the car up like this, says to drive it to warm it up.

makes sense so that everything warms up together, its not just your engine oil you want warm before you go for a thrash i guess.
