Your best mpg?
Hello All
I know this isn't something that you should worry about to much if you own or buy and M3 or M4. I take delivery of my new M4 in a couple of weeks and I currently drive an 335d M Sport X drive and it gives me 38 - 45 mpg which for an engine like that I think it's in my opinion absolutely great. I would like to know what's the best mpg you have managed to get out of your M cars? I know most of you out there probably don't care and are happy with led foot but it would be interesting to know. Look forward to reading your comments. |

Averaged 28 over 14,000 miles but it was my DD. Normal driving low 20s mix really if you don't have a ton of motorway.

Average is 23mpg. But I blast it everywhere around town in sport + . Normally shows 14mpg when you do that. On a motorway at a steady 75 80 you'll get 34mpg . If your coming from an e92 m3 the difference is significant. For what it is, it's pretty economical.

Mix of commuting in slow traffic and heavy footed blasting about. Always sport +. Very rarely am i cruising at 75 on a motorway although I have seen 35mpg on the occasions I do.

As above. Over the winter I had a spell of lots of short runs where the engine hardly warmed up and was getting 18ish. Just had a brisk run from North of Scotland to Sothern England and averaged 33.

I'm interested in this also as it will be my DD when the weather is nice and i do a lot of steady motorway jaunts.
If you can achieve mid 30's I'd be happy with that. Just wish the old petrol would drop below £1 a litre again as it's slowly creeping up again! |

I think a few of us have (or have had) 335d’s and it would appear the M3 is around 10mpg less both around town and on a run, from what I’ve observed of people posting their mpg.
I would imagine if you are coming from a 335i/340i, the figures will be a lot closer (obviously!).

I have a round trip from Fife to Prestwick this week, about 200 miles, I will attempt to drive efficiently to see how it goes, most of the motorway is road works with average speed cameras all over anyway, maybe try an efficient drive out then a bit of a blast back where possible.

This guy is impressed with 35mpg from his 440i so if we get near that on a run in an M3 I will be pleased.

Mine's a daily driver and I managed to get an average of 30mpg for a tank full running it on comfort for the whole tank
Generally I get 26-27mpg and that's with no motorway driving |

My best so far has been 35.8mpg over a 305 mile run, the car is averaging 27.5 mpg.
I do a couple of 200 mile runs every week and never get less than 30mpg.

If you are averaging > 19mpg you are not driving the car correctly. I only look to make sure I am staying at 18 or below on any given trip, even commuting to work.

Meanwhile back in the realms of normal driving over here in Blighty, I'd say unless you spend your whole time in traffic, doing short journeys, driving the car 100% of time like you stole it, throw in a few longer journeys and 25-26mpg is about realistic. If I have a week of just pottering to office and back and no m/ways, it tends to drop down to about 21-22mpg. Morning blats can drop to 18/19mpg if just filled up. Conversely I have seen just over 35mpg doing M25/M1 slog. Car is actually hugely efficient when cruising - very impressed.
