iPhone Bluetooth audio issues

so hear me out on this, i have an iphone 6s. As long as i've had my m3, whenever i want to listen to music from my phone, i just hit the "media" button next to the idrive wheel and after a few seconds it starts playing music from my phone, and i can scroll through playlists with either the idrive wheel or the little scroll knob on the steering wheel which then shows songs on the HUD.

Just recently whenever i hit the media button, nothing happens. I have to go into my phone and open the music app and pick a song for it to start playing. which is distracting while driving. and then if i scroll through my playlists/songs using the idrive wheel and i click a song to play, it wont play unless i press play on my iphone. and the scroll wheel on the steering wheel wont play a song either when i select it.

long story short i have to basically use my iPhone to control the music, which is annoying and distracting while driving. any suggestions?

This has happened to me a few times in the past....hasn't happened again since the 58.3 update, but i've only had that for a week.

In the past, i've had to reboot my iPhone in order to correct this issue.

Try removing your iphone from Bluetooth and re-adding it. This has helped me in the past.

Just restarted my phone and it fixed this problem

You have to restart the phone, or close the app.

yepp, can confirm resetting the phone fixes the issue

I'll switch to radio then back to bluetooth and it works.
