Summer trip to Bavaria

Taking 3 weeks out in the July / August and taking the M4 to Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland and would appreciate any recommendations about roads, routes, hotels.
Itinary at the mo is
Strasbourg - 2 night
Heiligenberg - 2nights
Munich - 6 nights
Salzburg - 2 nights
then taking just over a week to travel through Austria & Switzerland then back home, nothing booked for this bit. Will stop and find hotels en route.

Plan to do Berchtesgaden, Fuessen, Ettal but would appreciate any tips and recommendations from anyone who have done this area.

perhaps a detour a bit north to nurburg!?

some very nice roads around there

just ignore the no racing signs every 100m
