stone chips

Hi everyone, my first post on the m3/m4 forum.
Has anyone with the f80 had stones being picked up with the front tyres and causing stone chips on the front part of the rear wings.Just behind the rear doors above the clear protection film.My car is BSM wich shows every mark anyway. Also some chips on the sills at the front,most of this damage is on the drivers side. Just interested to know if anyone else has the same problems. Thanks.

Hi, are you running spacers? I started getting chips in the first 1k, not a pretty sight, got a few on the wings, bonnet and on my carbon mirror caps.

Not running spacers Foretrees,all standard.

My detailer/paint protection expert who recently put Xpel on my car removed the OEM film over that part of the fender flare and replaced it with Xpel, but terminating much higher up on the fender. He suggested we do that specifically because of the problem you are reporting. It's apparently very common but BMW hasn't done a good job of recognizing the issue on the M-car.

Ok, I was running 15m front and 12m rear and the lower front doors were chipping pretty bad, flipped the spacers and it's much better, just today got a chip on the screen at low speed of the car if front, I happens!

That's true,I have e mailed customer services with the problem.They said that its all been logged,but I don't think anything will be done about it or at least until they receive a lot more complaints.

Constant source of annoyance, no spacers but seems every stone on the road is picked up and thrown at the side of my car by the front wheels. Makes driving with the windows down very depressing. Thought it was just me

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the solution to this? Some sort of paint protection or film?

I thought it was mainly an m3 problem with the flaired rear wings,but I see its the m4s also.

Could be,but the only cure for this in my opinion would be a set of front mud flaps if they were available.I know this wont be a popular answer but as far as I am concerned it would be better than constant stone chip damage.

On my M4 as it was black the polish and wax would get caught in the edge of the protective film and look like a scratch. My tossed neighbour would always point out with glee that I had a scratch. I took the film off, which was actually way tougher than I thought. Didn't notice any more chips to be honest.

This was M4, appreciate M3 differs and was not running from spacers.

Yes I know what you mean Chris,the protective film covers a much bigger area on the M4.Did you use a heat gun or hair dryer to remove the film.

No, the edges were the hardest past, it did then peel away ok. The adhesive however was a nightmare, I used white spirit to help remove the very last of it and then washed the bodywork.

The cars looks were vastly improved when it was off. I'll likely do the same on the M3 perhaps.
