New m4 cp convertible arrives on Friday. Advice?

My m4 convertible cp arrives on Friday. I'm new to an m4. Sold my 911 to buy one. What advice can you give me on run in, first few months etc. I have full gtechniq being applied in early June.
Spec is
Black
Black leather
Dct
Hud
Tv
Hk
rear park assist
carbon
Comfort pack
Thru load, sliding centre armrest, etc

Got a pretty good deal. I think. And swapped my non cp order to get a cp.

Thanks. And very excited.

Get the roof down.
Enjoy!

I assume you know about the service at 1200 so depending upon your mileage you might need to book that in soon ish.

I'd guess you're ok with performance cars in general coming the 911, but the M3/4 can be quite a best if you pedal mash (which I doubt you do) but beware if taking out in the early days in the damp/wet.

Congrats on the F83 CP< great choice of car.

Don't forget the pictures for us when she arrives

Very cool. I don't think many/any F83 CP owners have been on here yet. I could be wrong.

As a fellow F83 owner (non CP) I'm looking forward to the pics and your review.

Get the roof down, hit Sport+ and enjoy the noise! I'm also new to an M4, having taken delivery of a (non-CP) F83 a few weeks back and it has been an absolute pleasure to drive. I was a bit concerned having not had a performance car before but I think the previously reported skittish handling has been massively improved in both non-CP MY16 and CP cars and I've had no scares to date. Just had the 1200 mile RI service though, so full rev range now available ......

Thanks for advice. Will post pictures as soon as I get it. Can't wait to get roof down and hear the noise. Borrowed a non cp in Jan to determine that I wanted an m4 and handling in the damp was fun..... Now to get 1200 miles done quickly!!
Kids very excited too. Mrs less so. I think she'll stick to her car.

Excellent news mate. Congrats! What 911 did you trade for?

Re break in... Break in hard and bed those rings in!! Vary the revs especially in the first 100 miles and don't nanny it. Very important not to drive like a pussy and don't sit on the motorway at a constant speed. Have fun and get the valves open in sp+ and enjoy

I'll be taking delivery of my M4 in July and was wondering about the break in procedure. When you say don't nanny it and break it in hard, do you mean warm the engine up first and then give it the beans but all below 5.5k revs? Or is it acceptable once warm to rev past 5.5k occasionally within the first 1200 miles?

(sorry to hijack the thread with a break in question, congrats on your new car MConvert!!)

M5essex. Thanks for advice. I had a 997 carerra s gen 2 with pdk. A great car but became too small for kids to get in back. Was remarkably good in bad weather with weight over rear wheels.
I think advice is to keep revs below 4500 for first 1200 miles.

I have a golf r too. The vw dealer was very clear when I got it. Don't run it in. New cars don't need it. So it has been driven hard for the last 15 months ! I think Ms must be different beasts.

Arrived this afternoon - love it !

The noise on start up is fantastic - my local dealer kept asking if he could start it in the showroom as it made so much noise.
50 miles in and yet to drive with the roof closed....
here's hoping it is sunny this weekend...

Very nice! Enjoy.

As far as the running period is concerned, my take on it having run in 4 M cars is:

The engine components need load not WOT or "Italian tuning" to bed in properly, so use the available revs (5.5k during the running in period) but avoid high revs in 1st and 2nd, plenty of 3rd/4th and 5th gear pulls from lowish revs (don't labour the engine) that load will help seat everything and a bit of engine breaking down the hills etc....

Avoid sustained high speed 100mph+ for long periods, don't idle the engine to warm it up, get in start the engine and drive off.

Bed the brakes in as well with a few high speed stops.

Dealer was pretty clear with me today. Run in to 4000 revs for first 1200 miles. Then start to push harder until around 2500 miles when you can really give it the beans !! He also advised not to sit on motorways but do mixed driving ..... Oh the hardship 😄

Pretty sure the max revs recommended within breakin period is 5500 but as we all know these dealers and salesmen know less than we do about these cars! Remember these engines are already run in and you won't damage it even if you took it to the track on day one. Just warm it up fully before having fun. A fast car out the blocks is a fast car for life....

Sorry Tommy, only just seen your post... As Wills said above is spot on. Warm her up and use the Rev range. Don't do harsh kick downs in auto but use all the revs. First 50-100 miles are key.

If the first 50-100 miles are key what is the best way to drive one back up the M40 M6 for 180 miles after pickup?

Good question... Can you take the back roads and avoid the M or traffic? If not, stick it in manual, use the paddles and vary your revs. You will have to use all lanes and put load on the engine. Imagine an alpine road round European inclines and declines... Hills, engine braking, acceleration in bursts and give it lots of variety... On a motorway straight after pick up you may struggle with that! I swear by that break in and cars never burn oil.

Hmm i can take the back roads back up to Oxford way after that back onto motorway.

Not much more than that though. Also trying avoid any chipping if possible before getting the car wrapped up at the front.
