Weird issue with Radio and Screen

Weird thing happened to me this morning on my 2016 M4. As I was trying to pull out of my garage to go to work... My radio just all of a sudden turns off as soon as the car started to move... and my idrive screen turned off as well. Both were completely out. Tried to push buttons on radio....and nothing... Not even a sound. Everything else seem fine. So I tried to turned off the car...and turned it back on. The radio and screen still remained off.

I get to work and decided to just let it sit and get back to it later at lunch when I have more time to look into it. The day goes by, I got so busy and I completely forgot about it. 8hrs later, i returned to the car... Expecting my radio is still out. I Started the car and everything is back to normal. Radio and screen back on like nothing ever happened. I was scratching my head.

What gives!?? Has this ever happened to anyone else?? I barely have about 2000mi on the car (not that this makes a difference). Im debating calling the dealership about this cuz i can't replicate what happened. Thoughts anyone?!?

My iDrive system spontaneously restarts several times and the frequency of the restart has increased. Now my audio is dead. Interestingly I had spontaneous crackle sounds through the speakers prior to this idrive restart issue.

I'm heading to the dealer next week and will update the thread as soon as I learn more. I hope your issue is resolved soon.

What do you mean by restarts? Can you elaborate? Im trying to identify if mine is having the same issue...or the beginning of it. Did you get your car coded by any chance?

Those damn Little electrical gremlins. They pop up from time to time from what I've read on these forums. Could be symptoms of a dying battery. Could be a bad ground wire. Could be just a lemon car. Many of these symptoms have occurred with different faults. Take it to the dealer, see if they can diagnose and pinpoint the problem. If it's been happening more frequently, maybe it will happen to them while its in their hands and they can find a fix. Keep us updated!

It's a software glitch, take it to the dealer and get an update. It goes away after that. Happens with the 2016 models. This is mine doing it. Good luck.

Yours looks like its different from my issue. Mine seems to be my idrive screen.
Also, if its a software thing, does that mean I will need to get it recoded again?

You gotta figure if it we're our personal computers we would just reload the operating system and we wouldn't be so surprised it happened, but since our car with 8 computer systems simultaneously working together we say, WTF. lol reprogram will fix it.

Update: The dealer first told me they will re-program the "head unit" on a service bulletin. Now they are replacing it because the unit was non responsive. I will provide another update tomorrow hopefully with error codes and part numbers.
