Thinking of trying out the federals instead of my regular Michelin Super Sports. I heard the federals run up to two sizes bigger? I was planning on getting 245/265 for MPSS so should I get 225/245 in the federals?
Current wheels are Apex Arc-8 18x8.5 +45 18x9.5 +62

Yes they are wide tires, but I expect 255/35/18 rear would be safe with 595RSR. The ET62 offset will have enough fender clearance. I'd suggest 225/40/18 for the front unless you want to get camber plates.

You should be able to run the 265/35 in the back. I have seen it done over here on a couple of 1's with Federals. 225/40 should be good up front and I have a friend running 235/40.
For my track setup I use a square 235/40 front and back on 18x8.5 style 264 wheels. In front I have 1M control arms, camber plates and 15mm spacers. No rubbing so far.

Elsabor67, your friend that has RS-R 235/40-18 up front, what suspension mods do he have? M3 parts, camber plates, spacer etc.. ?
I`m going to to buy a set of RSR`s very soon, and can`t decide between 225 and 235 up front. (Wheels are ARC-8 - 8,5 ET 45 and 9,5 ET 62) Rear tire will be 255/35, and I`m not worried about the them. The 225`s that I can get only has a load index of 88W, but the 235 has 91W I`m going to install M3 Controll arms before RSR`s goes on, and probably Dinan fixed camberplates (not decided on them yet) Only lowered on Bilstein/Eibach B12 kit |

Why not get the new 595RS-RR. Not sure if the compound is new, but the tread pattern is and is supposed to be improved. Should also have the same sizes.

I run 265/35 in the back. I rub, but that's only going over a sizeable bump at speed. Take into account I'm lowered. Run 8.5 in the back

Thanks for the help guys! I edited my original post I wanted 245/265 not 235/265
Reason being that I wanted a tire size that was close so that it would reduce the amount of under steer. I think I may go with 225/245 or even 235/255 in the federals. I'll have to check out 595rs-rr now froop

Is there anyone that have tried RS-R`s 265/35-18" on a 9,5" ET62? (rear)
Will it fit under the fenders? I`m only lowered with Bilstein/Eibach B12 kit Have tried to find pictures on goggle of 255 and 265 RS-R`s tires on 9,5" wheels. And it looks like a 265 tire fits a 9,5" wheel best. 255 looks a bit stretched. |

My first search for federal tires didn't come up with anything for the rsr's. I found a place simple tires or something like that, they have them but it says they have a wear rating of 140. That's to low for me, even at that cost, I'm on my third set of rears at 30k miles. I'm looking for a wear rating of 200 to 240.

Update on fitment on federal 595 RS-R
First, Car specs: Wheels Apex Arc-8, 8,5x18 ET45 & 9,5x18 ET62 Tires 225/40 & 265/35 Only lowered with Eibach Pro springs M3 control arm kit (front only) I will first say that the tire size is spot on (by my opinion) tires are a couple of millimeters wider than the wheels, and it looks great. Both front and rear have the same amount of tire on the outside of the wheels. Had the car for a suspension alignment yesterday, told the workshop to set the car up with the same numbers that the M1 Coupe`has. Camber front: 1.2 deg Camber rear: 1.4 deg There is is no rubbing at all, have been driving very spirited to try to get the tires to rub, but no luck (also, I tried the new wheels and tires with OEM camber, before M3 arms, and there was no rubbing at all then either) The car is not slammed, but there is not much room in the front fenders. So my point is that you don`t need "a billion" negative camber to fit wide tires up front. Tires in the front have enough clearance both on the outside and inside, no rubbing against strut. Tires in rear are barely touching the lining on the inside of the tire, so I will install a 3mm spacer. But that`s more for the esthetics and looks of the car. Don`t need it for tire rubbing. Tried 10mm spacer for fun, and it fits with no problem, but I did not like the look the car got, tires where to far out, but for those that want 275 tire I say it will fit fine, but you will need a 3-5mm spacer for the tire will touch the inside (ET62 + 3 or 5mm spacer) For ride comfort and noise I don`t see any problems for DD, there is some noise and the car is a little harsh with harder tire sides and the harder M3 bushings. But I like how the car handles now, it feels more mechanical For traction and driving experience, the tires (and M3 bits) have made the car amazing to drive now. Crazy sticky tires and crisp steering response I will post some pictures soon |
