Lufthansa Discount?

I received my ED welcome package (yay me!)

I am going to fly non-stop from SFO to MUC on Lufthansa, so any discount would be great. The problem is the discount code on the info provided does not work and the toll free number (888-552-4508).

Does anyone know if any discount is still available?

April. They fly direct SFO to MUC.

Why not call Lufthansa and ask them directly what kind of discount they offer for BMW ED?

ED Lufthansa discount is a joke.
The discount is supposed to be applied from full-fare ticket price. You will find that you can find a better price on Lufthansa and other airlines by shopping around on your own.

Hotel prices are somewhat competitive, unless you have access to corporate hotel rates. In which case, again, ED prices will be higher.

The luggage tags are nice. I used those.

I assume as much, but since they are the ONLY airline offering non-stop service SFO to MUC, would be nice to know if there were any savings at all. The discount hubs (Expedia, Travelocity, CheapTickets, etc.) are actually priced higher than Lufthansa for the non-stop route.

We just want to get on the plane and relax. No need to fight our way through some other airport if we can avoid it. Price of convenience.

If you have united airline miles will be a good price to go there. UA is partner with Lufthansa. But the catch is they don't offer nonstop flight.

I save 50% using mileages compare to cash.

I fly from phl to muc

You can go with business class using mileages is close to what you pay cash for economy class

Thanks, but I am not a member of United.

It USED to be a decent deal. You got a free companion ticket. The last time I did an ED I looked into it, but did way better on my own with US Air. I was PHL to MUC though. This April I'm going again but opted to take British Airways through LHR on the way over. Saved $1,400 vs. the direct flight. Layover is only 2 1/2 hrs. which isn't horrible. Flight home is direct. BA is a partner with American apparently since they're actually AA flights.

Yeah. I already know I can save a total of $900 on Lufthansa using time share points, so I may go that route. That's factors to about 25-30% savings.

Call when I did my EU in summer of 2014.. it may not be the most cost effective to fly with them.

Additionally, play with Google flights and other flight options.. IE fly into Paris or some other European place, then do a cheap internal fight for 100-150 bucks or highspeed train.

I just booked my flights using points because the ED discount wasn't worth using. When did you place your order before you got that package? I have a mid April ED.

You are completing transaction a month and a half before pickup? Isn't that kinda early? Sucks to be paying for a month and a half for nothing.

It's fine. It's a cash deal. Between my CA's vacation and my business travel schedule this was the only day we could get together.

The Luftansa "discount" is usually more than you would pay just buying online through the Luftansa web site.

My only other advice is "GET PREMIUM ECONOMY!" It's a huge step up from economy, is just $300 more per ticket, and well worth it. Your wife will love you for it.

Yeah I checked Premium Economy and unfortunately the "basic" Premium Economy is sold out. That was the $300-500 option. The next step up is $1000-1500 option (over and above Economy). In reading the online reviews of Premium Economy on LH, it would have been worth a $300 upgrade, but definitely not worth a $1000 (per seat) upgrade.

The differences between the two upgrade options are FF miles earned on the trip and refundable vs non-refundable.

Afraid it's just not going to happen

The discount I got amounted to I think about 50-75 off a 1500-1600 ticket. It was about a 9 hour direct flight from DC to Munich and actually a code share flight operated by United. There are some folks on here that really talk up about getting flights cheaper, but then you probably have to deal with connections, redeye, or layovers. To me saving a few hundred bucks in the grand scheme of things wasn't enough to inconvenience myself of dealing with that crap. My flight got into Munich about 8am and while we were tired we were still able to enjoy the entire day. We took the Sixt service (7 series) to our hotel in Munich, left our bags there and then took the train to Dachau since it was Sunday and a lot of stuff in closed in Munich. My suggestion is to get into Munich a few days before your ED and explore without a car. Try to stay near Marienplatz.
