BMW Tire and Wheel Insurance
Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask. I want to buy the BMW Tire and Wheel Insurance (by safe guard). But the dealer that I got my car from is asking for $2500 for 5 year for M3. I remember I saw it somewhere that I can purchase this insurance from other dealer too, is that true? If it is true, what should be the reasonable price for 5 years? Thanks

Your local BMW dealer does, and its underwritten by a third party other than BMW. The dealer is free to mark-up the policy up to whazoo, and most do. It is entirely up to you to shop for alternative tire & wheel insurance policies from other 3rd parties. Before you commit to one, consider the following: 1). OEM wheels do not break or crack (unless you wreck the car and demolish it). Cosmetic damage (curb rash, lip bends) can usually be repaired for $100-200 per incident, with shipping. 2). Tires will last you around 10-15K miles. The next set should be purchased at a discount form TireRack (installed at the dealer, or any number of more qualified tire shops), which either includes the tire insurance for free, or offers to add it for $10-15/tire. So before you drop $1.5-2.5K for the tire&wheel insurance, make sure your understand, and price out, the alternatives. a

Any type of insurance a dealer will sell you is a ripoff. Don't bother. As afadeev stated, the alternatives are MUCH cheaper.

DON'T DO IT
WASTE OF MONEY I'VE MADE THE MISTAKE BEFORE THEY PUSH IT SO HARD BECAUSE IT BRINGS THEM A PROFIT LIKE A VEGAS CASINO Keep the money in your pocket, earn interest, and buy your own tires and rims. I've NEVER bent an OEM BMW rim. Ever. In 20 years.
